Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumI am going to infiltrate a local Sanders supporters meeting this evening.
I have purchased a #Bern It All Down t-shirt as my disguise along with wearing the DNC pin I got off of ebay UPSIDE DOWN as a show of defiance against the establishment.
My number one goal will be to find out whom this dedicated band of political activists see as the WEAKEST opponent to Bernie.
Who is it really that they wish to meet in the final face-off for the 2020 Democratic Nomination?
Yes, I realize that as a Warren supporter I am taking my life in my hands going on this mission, but someone has to do it for the sake of the Democratic Primaries Forum here on DU.
Wish me godspeed, and I will see you all on the other side.

(11,605 posts)My guess, based on my personal experience, is they won't be nearly as crazy as the people we've been hearing about or seeing on Twitter.
As I mentioned in another post last night, over the past 6 months I've had 5 or 6 Bernie staff or volunteers text me to ask me to volunteer to get signatures on the ballot for him in NY or attend a debate watch party. All have been perfectly polite when I respond that I am not supporting him this time.
In 2016, I will say that most of the volunteers I met were a little bit to the left of me (as I expected), and one or two said they wouldn't vote for Hillary in the general, but this was in a deep blue state. I got the sense that if we lived in a swing state they would have sucked it up and voted for her, though I can't say for sure.
I have my reasons for not supporting Bernie this time, but I don't think it's fair how every obnoxious thing a left wing activist does gets attributed to him. Many of the people and groups engaged in BS like bringing a coffin to the Biden fundraiser were doing that cap long before Bernie ran for president, and would be doing it even if he wasn't running.

(2,949 posts)I don't recall meeting any fanatics when attending events/activities. All the members I knew switched to Hillary once it was made clear she was our candidate. Some may have done so begrudgingly but it was done. Me thinks any supporter that didn't vote or voted for trump were never democratic voters. They were further left and thought getting Bernie would be a move in the right direction.
But anyway, i would be interested to see what you learn tonight. The upside down DNC pin is not required, I never encountered one in my work with them. I still know and see many of them, most are still Bernie supporters. I have switched to Warren just based on the fact i am about the same age as Bernie and think age does make a difference.
Also if i were to pick the weakest candidate to face Bernie in the end i would choose one of the Dinos. Either Tulsi Gabbard or Bloomberg.
