The simple truth is that Mayor Bloomberg, with all his money, will not create the kind of excitement and energy we need to defeat Donald Trump.

What I see with the other candidates is petty bickering and sniping.
Guess which strategy wins.

He's not popular among the older voters, like myself, who do show up to vote, nor is he popular among AA voters, who also show up to vote.

(1,607 posts)There's a LOT of soul searching out there--as there should be.
Do we really need a rock star? Oh, that would be nice; energy ya know?
Can you please point me in the proper direction? Or, perhaps this a moment for calm reasoned judgment and mature civic consideration to save the fucking Republic and all of us from the terror of autocratic fascist domination??
Our country, its future, and our children's future need YOUR energy!

(713 posts)Of course Bloomberg is doing well. He is pouring multi-millions of dollars into ads. This is the opposite of grassroots democracy. I do not support Bloomberg, but will certainly vote for him against Trump should he win the Democratic nomination.

These are strange times. I never thought I'd go from chasing Bernie rallies in 2016 to this!

(1,607 posts)Trump needs to be pummeled. THAT is his MO; turn it back on him.
Double down, give it back, drag him through the gutter, emasculate the asshole. Corner him, reduce him, chop him into pieces of incoherence. Minimize him, neutralize him--checkmate.
Who is in the game?

(3,334 posts)And if Bernie wins, every f*@cking billionaire and corporation is going to saturate our dumb electorate with deceptive ads, and Trump is going to win.
Unfortunately, I think we need to nominate a candidate who's palatable to the moneyed class in order to win.

I have zero enthusiasm for a couple of our candidates. But it doesn't take much energy to bubble in a ballot.
Good grief we arent choosing a life partner or a BFF. Were trying to get rid of Trump. That should
Muster plenty of energy.

(14,565 posts)Independents preferred Trump in 2016. That's why he won the electoral college.
Trump won independents 50-40 in Wisconsin. Trump won independents 48-41 in Pennsylvania. Trump won independents 52-36 in Michigan. Trump won independents 46-42 nationally.
Those percentages shifted wildly in 2018 when independents favored Democrats.
The recent Reuters/Ipsos poll had Sanders with an 18 point lead over Trump among independents. Bloomberg was second with a 14 point margin.
I would propose that Bloomberg's edge is far more rigid and less likely to dissipate or reverse.
This was the key finding from that recent survey regarding whether voters would support a socialist:
https://nypost.com/2020/02/11/majority-of-americans-would-vote-against-socialist-candidate-for-president-poll-finds/
"Significantly, only 45 percent of key swing-state voters self-described independents would vote for a socialist while 51 percent said they would not."
