CNN's Avlon on Trump Hyping Bernie: 'A Trap' to Make a 'Radical' Democratic Socialist the Nominee

Yes, it is.

Mediaite article, with video at the link:

https://www.mediaite.com/news/cnns-john-avlon-on-trump-hyping-bernie-its-a-trap-to-make-a-radical-democratic-socialist-the-nominee/

CNN Senior Political Analyst John Avlon offered a “reality check” in which he informed viewers that President Donald Trump has been promoting Independent Vermont Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders’ candidacy because Trump wants to run against an “actual radical” who calls himself a “Democratic Socialist.”

On Tuesday morning’s edition of CNN’s New Day, co-anchor Alisyn Camerota introduced Avlon’s “Reality Check” segment by noting that “Team Trump cannot seem to stop talking about Bernie Sanders, and it turns out there’s a good reason for that.”

Avlon then played several clips of Trump promoting Sanders’ chances in the Democratic primary, saying “I think people like his message, he’s got energy, his people have energy, but they like his message.”

He also noted assertions by Trump and his son that the primary is “rigged” against Bernie, and the mini-movement of Republicans voting for Sanders in open Democratic primaries.

-snip-

Avlon asks why all these Trump supporters are suddenly feeling the Bern, then points to video of alien Admiral Ackbar in Return of the Jedi realizing "It's a trap!"

Avlon then goes on to cite polling data on the socialist label, adding that Trump wants to run against a self-described socialist to distract from his own popularity.

And of course that's exactly what they'll do.

And what they've been hoping to do, ever since they started talking about this election, as Politico pointed out last May:

You would allow for him to be possible lying about Sen. Sanders? tRump’s first language is lying and second is English.

He always lies is absolutely correct. Disinformation all day and all night. It’s purpose is to drown out critical thinking by over loading our capacity to process information. It’s all noise and no signal.

the things he was talking about from Bernie. Those things got the largest reaction from his crowd. We knew everything that came out of his mouth when he was running was bullshit, he meant none of it. His problem is Bernie does mean what he says. He doesn't want to run against Bernie.

is what i an my brother were talking about yesterday. I so believe repukes are voting in primaries for Bernie and drive up his numbers to run in the primary. So when the GE comes around,;they turn around and vote for Trump and leaving us with a weak BS a s well as the American people who bought the polls leading to BS nomination he really did not win at all,;but were rigged by the Repukes to get BS and than we lose again to the real con.I may as well just wait to vote in the GE at the last minute like the Repukes did with Trump.I do not trust these polls at all. Trump team knows what they are doing. They also have Russia/Bots and probably China helping rigging the system as we speak. It is a scary time.I think we are getting a false sense of BS winning when he is really not and the real winner will lose because of this deception. JMHO.

If the egos in the centrist wing weren’t so large, almost all of them would drop out in order to consolidate support in or two candidates. Then we could let the parry decide.

If the centrists indeed feel this is a trap, then all but one (Biden or Bloomberg) should drop out. Seriously, there is no viable path in any of the polling for Buttigieg, Klobuchar and Steyer. The longer the centrist field remains crowded, the more it helps Sanders given Warren’s fade. The centrists can avoid such a trap but they have too much pride to address the writing on the wall.
