Charter schools have NO place in our system

We need top notch public education and not a bunch of blood sucking idiots running half assed schools fleecing the American Taxpayer.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:

Medicare for All - Pete's like "meh" and doesn't want to go all the way.

And now, this. I do not support charter schools of any time and do not want our taxpayer dollars wasted on this Republican concept.

There's a reason so few countries do actual full-on single payer, and even those don't do it at the national level.

Not to mention that Medicare for Everybody would mean $1200 premiums per individual, a $1000 deductible, and 20% copays with no out of pocket maximum after that -- it doesn't even rate as a Bronze plan under the ACA.

"Medicaid for most" is a much better thing to aim for.

but strongly disagree on the charter school part. Charter schools, if they are going to exist, should have some rules they have to abide by. They should have to prove the kids are attending them, they should have to take the same standardized tests public schools do, and they should have the same financial auditing rules that public schools do, and they should have to take all comers and not be permitted to send students back for lack of parental involvement or other things short of expulsion type behaviors (in which case the student should be expelled).

4. It's a common critique of the "free college tuition" push

It's mostly just a middle class subsidy; poor students' problem is not that they can't afford tuition (with need based aid that's not really a problem) but that they can't give up 4 years of work or child/elder care they are doing. Making things easier on the richest third or so of the US, which is who's going to college, just isn't a huge priority.

I'm also with him on charter schools: meh. They promise a lot but do essentially as well as neighborhood schools. They probably have a place, but they aren't "the answer".

By not giving answers that fit with either side's preconceptions, it's changing the conversation. Helping the poor takes priority over a middle class freebee. Charter schools can be used for testing ideas, but they aren't the answer.

was received in private church-established schools and I don't recall my experiences there with any pleasure. That's why I fully support the public school system. Charter schools are inherently corrupt
and anyone who thinks they "have a place" in the education system is making a BIG mistake on many levels!
