For 18 months after the law was enacted, business dropped off and bars and restaurants closed or cut jobs as smokers stayed home or went to private clubs and fraternal groups.

Wexler said restaurants saw a 3 to 4 percent loss of business, while bars saw an 18 percent decline and the association lost 20 percent of its membership.

it initially hurt small businesses and put people out of work without putting anything in place to mitigate those affects.

Nor do I think the ban excuses him from his other racist & authoritarian policies.

....When I worked on the upper East Side (Lenox Hill Hospital) I'd drive up York Avenue to the 96th Street entrance to the FDR Drive. That was the worst intersection, a few long lights and under the FDR, so it was covered. There would be groups of squeegie guys up there. at times they were threatening.

Anyway, to my knowledge they were all gone years before Bloomberg took office.

....just about every one of those intersections between highways - most of them make you get OFF one highway, drive a few local streets, and get back ON the other one. The end of 1st Avenue over the Willis Avenue Bridge was similar trying to get to the Bruckner Expressway.

I drove a cab a couple of nights a week for a few years when I was in college, got LOTS of experience on all those roads.
