Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumThis Bernie "oppo" is starting more and more to resemble the Loch Ness Monster.
Rumors abound. Some people say they've seen it. It's two feet tall, or maybe it fills up a warehouse. And yet after years of searching by multiple campaigns, all anyone's been able to come up with is some old, blurry, selectively edited videos that have basically got nothing in them.

(4,341 posts)This is nuts, and it doesn't look like its going to stop.
What they don't realize that they are bringing more people to support Sanders, the opposite to their goals is happening.
I believe Ari Melber was interviewing someone who said she had been supporting Biden, but because of all this vitriol against Sanders she is now supporting Sanders.
I sometimes think about the people who support and work for trump, and I always ask myself, "don't these people know that they will be thrown under the bus at any moment?" and with this bashing of Sanders I also ask myself "don't these people understand that if their candidate goes on top the same thing they are trying to do to Sanders will also be done to their candidate?"
This is disgusting, I wish it would stop, but I know it won't.

(13,991 posts)A minority of his supporters are absolutely awful and shameful and theyre all over Twitter and Facebook. DU doesnt have that problem, most Bernie people here are respectful. But the problem exists and needs to be addressed FORCEFULLY by Sanders.

(374 posts)Whether the attacks come from the left or the right nearly all of them have left me with a more favorable opinion of Sanders and a less favorable opinion of whoever is attacking him.
I'm a capitalist, fairly hardcore about it. Pretty sure I posted about it here years ago. I'm exactly the guy that Bernie is supposed to turn off.
Labels aside, the opposite is true. I don't think anyone is really looking for Trump lite, and that seems to be what a lot of people think is the safe bet.
PTSD maybe.

(4,959 posts)it's just more red-baiting.
What the 'oppo' doesn't seem to want to recognize is that a plurality (or close to it) of many, many demographics supports him as a first choice either in spite of the fact that he's a socialist or because he's a socialist.

(28,932 posts)Peter Daou (born April 25, 1965) is a Lebanese-American political strategist, activist, and author who has advised major political figures, including Hillary Clinton and John Kerry.[1][2] He was described by The New York Times as "one of the most prominent political bloggers in the nation." The Washington Post said that his early work in digital politics helped innovate "a whole new way of campaigning."[3][4][5]

(13,776 posts)Thank you! That makes me feel better, coming from someone in a position to know.
Lord this is all getting so ugly... I cant wait till were all on the same side again. Bernie is no longer my choice (he was in 2016) because I truly believe we would lose a national election in a catastrophic manner, but Im glad these oppo rumors are untrue.

(1,713 posts)He applied for conscientious objector status during the Vietnam War. He is on record supporting Socialist Party candidates in the 70s. Outside of running for political office he hasnt had a relevant career. There are lots of video of him praising various leftist leaders in Latin America. He ads write themselves. Democratic socialism cant win a general election. He will cost us House seats.

(11,605 posts)I wrote another thread about this - I hope Bloomberg runs the kind of ads Republicans will run against Bernie now, before Super Tuesday. Either they sink his candidacy before he amasses too many delegates, or they don't, in which case we will know it's not as big of a deal as some people fear and it's old news by November (think Reverend Wright in 2008). Win-win either way, IMO.
