Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumIf the moderates expect to have a chance at beating Sanders, two of them must drop out soon
Right now, the non-Bloomberg moderate candidates are dividing up a big chunk of the votes, giving Sanders a clear path to the nomination.
If they truly believe that Sanders as the nominee will be a sure losing ticket, then Biden, Klobuchar and Mayor Pete need to draw straws (or whatever method they wish) to select which one will remain, and the other two must drop out before Super Tuesday.
We know Sanders and Bloomberg are going all the way to the convention, and Warren will stay as long as her money lasts. This means the three remaining moderates must make some tough choices, or all of them will face being also-rans, the math is just that clear. Prove me wrong- if two of the three moderates drop out, the odds of the remaining one winning the nomination shoot up dramatically.
I do not fear a Sanders nomination; I am much more concerned about Bloomberg as the nominee.
My choice? Biden and Pete should drop out, and leave the non-billionaire moderate lane to Amy.

the most hated person on the planet? Or he ends up the big hero and wins the nomination and beats Trump. Only time will tell.

(43,325 posts)IF Biden can finish a strong 2nd or even win in Nevada, and if he crushes it in South Carolina, combined with massive losses by Pete and Amy in both, then he should be the one to stay in. That all said, I do not expect any of the 3 so-called moderates to drop out before Super Tuesday, for better or for worse. Warren really needs to hang in there as well and start to go after Bernie, with the rest going after Bloomberg, especially in the next two debates.
I fear both a Bernie and a Bloomberg nomination, albeit for different reasons. Both have the potential to be massively divisive within our Party, Bernie for already known reasons, and Bloomberg as the extreme vetting starts (and it will, and certainly not from just the Sanders camp.)

(2,706 posts)between now and South Carolina to make her case. The debate, and how it is perceived, will matter.
If Biden does well tomorrow, and places a close second in NV, and wins SC, then I think he goes on to do well on Super Tuesday. Amy will eventually drop out. In that case, I hope Amy is Bidens VP.
If he does poorly tomorrow, collapses in NV and SC and loses them, and Amy does well in NV (but Bloomberg wins SC), then she is positioning to be the unity candidate between those that will never support Sanders and those who will never support Bloomberg.

(43,325 posts)Amy is great, and she is a million times better than Bernie or Bloomberg, but I just cannot see either her or Pete overcoming the PoC issue. Pete also has a great ground game, organisation, and tonnes of cash on hand, things that Amy has none of atm. I do not think it will save him though (and I already voted for him via overseas ballot for the CA primary.)

(5,268 posts)Biden is expected to win SC with Sanders 2nd and perhaps even Steyer 3rd due to all of his ads in SC. If Biden doesn't win SC, he will seriously consider dropping out.

(2,706 posts)Anything is possible. I could see someone trading a VP slot for their delegates voting for a particular nominee.

(43,325 posts)Tulsi (insanity, not even Bernie is going to try and ram her in as VP)
Steyer (doubtful he has a shit tonne of delegates to barter)
Pete
Amy
Biden, Bloomberg, Bernie, (all too old) and Warren (she has said no over and over and seems to mean it, plus who, other than Bernie would give it to her?) will not take VP.
I have no clue how many pledged delegates Pete and Amy will end up with, but I doubt it is that many out of the 3,979 up for grabs, due to the 15% rule.

(10,721 posts)...there's no path for either of them.
Warren's single digit performance in NH and low support among POC, combined with Sanders being in the race, means she has virtually no chance.
If Biden loses SC, it comes down to Sanders and Bloomberg.

(171 posts)Shes done more to help BS and put us closer to a trump second term than anyone...one of Bloomberg or Biden needs to go now or collapse completely...Buttigieg will be mostly irrelevant after NV but could split the vote enough in some Super Tuesday states to help bs so hopefully he goes soon too..
