Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumWhat happens if Bernie wins the nomination and God forbid has another more serious heart attack?
What if its in the period of time after the convention but before the GE and he is unable to continue. Does his running mate take the reins or the person who came in second? The possibility of another heart attack in the future cant be ruled out. The fact that Bernie wont let us see his medical records makes me wonder what doesnt he want us to know?

(4,341 posts)Lets hope he doesn't have another one, I hope no one is. He seems to have a lot of energy at this time.
Kind of a sinister thought to come up with...
People have had heart attacks, and his was mild, and lived many years without having another one, they took care of themselves, which Bernie seems to be doing, so I would not worry myself about that.

(24,122 posts)and Bernie then goes on to serve 8 marvelous years as an aggressive progressive President representing We The People, including working class and low-income Americans?
Answer: Bernie restores the hopes and dreams of We The People, by delivering on his promise to finally achieve economic equality and racial justice in this country!!
Bernie/Elizabeth or Elizabeth/Bernie 2020!!
Either way, they're stronger together & can't be bought!!
Jump on the Bernie Bandwagon & join the revolution!!

(1,205 posts)to give us his records. We have to assume they are not good because it would be easy to release positive medical records. Proudly. Puffing chest, healthy old man easy. I had a conversation with my 81 yr old father yesterday about going to the gym five times a week and playing golf three times a week. How healthy he is. Very proud, as he should be. Beating me.
If Sanders had a heart attack (weak image) and the tests come up good health (strength) you can bet he would present the medical records.

(45,806 posts)I've been thinking about this for some time. I know he's always caucused with the Dems, but will THEY really all vote for the plans he submits to them? I'm afraid of this. Even our Dem Presidents don't always vote inline!

(42,862 posts)It's NOT a "remote" possibility... statistically speaking, he's MORE LIKELY to have another heart attack than any of the other candidates. Add to that the stress of the job that typically AGES other healthy and robust men by at least 20 years. Look at Clinton, GWB, Obama... fortunately they had the "wiggle room" to be aged by the stresses and demands of the job.
The candidate that I vote for will also demonstrate that he (or she) has the same stamina. I can't see myself voting for a half-term president, or someone who wouldn't have the strength to even complete two full terms.
That's important to me.
No lame ducks.

(21 posts)As I posted in another thread, Sanders released letters from three different doctors stating hes in good health.
https://www.politico.com/news/2019/12/30/sanders-releases-letters-doctors-health-091263
What medications does Biden take, whats his blood pressure and pulse rate? Bernies information are in the letters. Show me Bidens numbers, and lets discuss.

(171 posts)BS said he would release his FULL records and has gone back on his promise to do so. After trumps fraudulent doctor notes do you expect people to accept the same level of proof for a 78 year old that just had a heart attack...what is he hiding??

This is such ugly high school gossipy stuff - again.

(67,405 posts)the party can designate a new nominee BEFORE the election
if our persons wins and is the president elect, the vice president elect takes his/her place
the prob with this is when does one become pres elect, after votes are counted or after electoral votes are counted
according to answers.com - If the candidate dies before the general election, the party's national committee votes on a new candidate in much the same manner as the convention, but without all the fanfare. IOW, there would be a representative from each state with the same number of votes as his state had delegates to the convention. Hopefully, ballots for the general election have not already been printed, or the new candidate's name may not appear on the ballot.
If the candidate dies after the election, but before the Electoral College, electors committed to that candidate are free to elect someone else.
If the candidate dies after the electoral college, but before the inauguration, the VP elect becomes the president elect according to the 20th amendment to the Constitution.

(25,183 posts)after it was clear that the Democratic Party was going to replace Thomas Eagleton as George McGovern's running mate, a mini-convention was held, and Sargent Shriver was confirmed by the party as the official VP pick.
I would imagine that there are rules for convening to replace the name at the top of the ticket, should that become necessary.

Joe Biden, on the other hand, has unknown degree of coronary blockage - may be a little, may be a lot- and is on no protective meds (just guessing), so he is more of a crapshoot.

My husband was diagnosed with an incurable blood cancer that has been manageable since 2014 and hes doing great. Two years ago my best friend got brain cancer and died within a year. My sister-in-laws youngest son got esophagus cancer at 38 and died two years later.
This is just a ridiculous thing to be fixating on.
