Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumIt is hard for me to say this about Amy,
but she has shown that she has a mean streak. She cant seem to tolerate being challenged by Pete and responds to him with a derisive tone that is very unbecoming to her.

The men fight back and no one expects them to smile cheerfully and take it. Her anger was justified, not weakness.

she is lying. She didn't oppose 2/3 of his judges that is a total, utter, and complete lie. She did support more of them than every single, solitary Senator who ran (not just the two on that stage). She supported more than Booker did, Harris did, Bennet did, Gillibrand did, and of course Sanders and Warren did. She should try being honest for a change.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
Demsrule86
(68,735 posts)can't stop them. I see no point in not letting red state and purple state Democrats vote for them. It truly is meaningless...you want judges nominate a candidate who can win back the Senate for us...until then a big who cares.

(52,170 posts)but that isn't what she said. She just plain lied. She denied voting for the judges (no she didn't oppose 2/3 of those judges) and she lied by implication saying he was comparing her to only Sanders and Warren when he had clearly said every senator who ran (and again he was absolutely correct). She only stopped voting for those judges this year as she was running.

(28,086 posts)and took back the state House (the state Senate wasn't on the ballot). Congress was a wash. Two districts flipped Dem to Rep and two went the other way.
Amy did her best to appeal to the more conservative parts of the state. She seems to take for granted that liberals to moderates in the metro area will resign themselves to voting for her because she's still better than a Republican

I use the phrase unbecoming a lot. I've probably used it in other places on DU before. Maybe it's a regional thing. I don't think of it as gender specific, though I can now see why you would.

Sparkly
(24,162 posts)I see a "mean streak" in men being thoroughly condescending to her and belittling her experience. Pete suggested her years in the Senate were equal to his as mayor of a town in Indiana -- that is simply absurd. She was accused of horrible things, she was not allowed to respond, and even when she was responding, Pete interrupted her TWICE!!
THAT is just obnoxious.

(7,876 posts)She won't get some random post-debate bump again tonight. I don't know why she has hung around this long to begin with. It's at the point where she is going to start getting negative returns after taking the beating that she did tonight. If she finishes 5th (or worst) in the next two contests, she needs to bow out before Super Tuesday and help keep the dreaded democratic socialist from amassing delegates assisted by what will be a spoiler candidacy for her at that point.

(775 posts)I thought she stood her ground and defended her record. She proved she's a fighter. Every female candidate for President gets accused of this same thing in debates. Meanwhile the men get to yell and imterrupt all night. wish Hillary would have showed some of this emotion when she debated Bernie and Trump in 2016.
Warren and Klobuchar both did great tonight. IMO.

(3,266 posts)is to recoil from it. But Ive been saying we need someone who will fight back and fight dirty and I think we goddamn need a Dem with a mean streak. It is a natural trait for Dems to be turned off by meanness, but we have to fight fire with fire. For this goround, I embrace the mean streak. Weve got to give as good as were getting from the playground bullies and speak to them in the only way they understand. They laugh at compassion, reason and understanding. I say Go, Amy and be an unmitigated bitch.
Edited to add: I saw her on Real Time last week, and she would not shut up. Or, to look at it from another point of view - Bill tried to talk over her and she wasnt having it. And my reaction was to dislike her for it. And then I remembered shes exactly what Ive been asking for, for years, and I made the conscious decision to support her and that quality about her that I dont like. For once we need that person whos kind of an asshole, but takes no shit - and shes on our side.

Plus, we need someone with a little bit of a mean streak. I don't think it is her most prominent streak, but being willing to fight back is important, even if she came off condescending in this particular instance. That streak will come in very handy if she is up against Trump.

(40,238 posts)I think Pete might have been hard on Amy in return for the cartoon accusation in the NH debate. That was a lie and it cost Pete votes. Lets be honest here, she belittles him and treats him with contempt. It was his right to be hard on her.
