Everyone came to destroy Mike tonight. It didnt happen.
Everyone wanted him to lose his cool. He didnt do it.
Mike is the grown-up in the room.

It was a bad night for Bloomberg much of the time, but there were times when his calm (maybe shell-shocked?) demeanor was a real contrast to how furiously the other candidates were going after him and after one another.
Yes, Bloomberg lost the debate. Badly.
But he's been campaigning by ad, not by debate performance.
I think it would be a safe bet that his team is busy puting together ads contrasting his better answers with the loud fury from the other candidates.
And contrasting what he said about going after Trump with the other candidates' circular firing squad.
And Bloomberg has the money to flood the airwaves, and social media, with those ads.

(25,111 posts)shreds at the debate. Media wrote Pres O off, and they were extremely ugly about it. I remember that my family were shocked and in tears.
I wouldn't write Bloomberg off, he still has 24/7 commercials both on tv and radio, and he will play victim.
As to Senator Warren and VP Biden

(11,605 posts)In that he was already a sitting president, and people who agreed with him weren't going to vote for Romney just because he had a bad debate. His poll numbers went down after that first debate, but he was able to recover in the next two. In a general election, where the policy contrasts are so much starker, a bad debate doesn't hurt as much, especially when people already know you.
Here, in contrast, Democrats are evaluating the candidates in part based on how they will do against Trump, so being a bad debater is something a lot of people will care about. This is especially true since many people who supported Bloomberg weren't crazy about him or his positions in the first place but were going along because they thought he was the most likely to beat Trump. This may not be the end for Bloomberg, but he's probably wishing he hadn't qualified. I'm just hoping the other candidates didn't piss him off so much that he decides to retract his promise to spend his money to help whoever the nominee is beat Trump if he doesn't win.

(10,168 posts)that happens to hate Trump on a personal level, in whatever clothing wins the election for him. Right now he's wearing Democratic garb.
But as Warren pointed out and others followed, after his guts were hanging to his knees, that Bloomberg was with Dubya Bush and Cheney 100% not too very long ago. I remember that clearly, until he felt it wasn't a good look for him and he turned on them (a little).
And Bloomberg was NOT a supporter of Obama, contrary to the ads he's running: https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2020/02/19/obama-bloombergs-relationship-its-apparently-more-complicated-than-bloombergs-ads-sugg

(12,051 posts)had no trouble doing the same to Bloomberg. Frankly, there are tons of Democrats here and in the rest of the country who are wondering how an obvious Republican like Bloomberg is even allowed to run as a Democrat. I have no problem with him using his money to destroy Trump, but I really have no idea why he's running.

(8,052 posts)I think it's absolutely nuts to spend so much time attacking him like he's the enemy. He's not. He's easily the most accomplished person on that debate stage. Imagine the brain wattage you would need to go from mechanical engineer, to Harvard MBA, to banker, to computer inventor, to media company to mayor of NYC--and succeed at all of it. For all the dumb things he's said over the years, he's done a tremendous amount of good--and most importantly, I LIKE HIS POLICY PLANS.
