If they're going to do the "brokered convention" thing, it had best be Warren.

It's pretty clear that everyone thinks Bernie's going to roll into Milwaukee with the most votes and pledged delegates. That's why he was the only one last night who reaffirmed the democratic principle that whoever gets the most votes should be the nominee.

But, if that doesn't happen, and somehow a candidate with less votes ends up being selected, please let it be Warren. Sure, I'm biased, because I like Warren's policies. But that's not the main reason. Beating Trump is the point. We need to avoid fracturing the party and ending up with a bunch of pissed off voters, because that would hurt turnout and help Trump.

And the best chance we have of that is Warren. She's seems to be acceptable to both the "progressive" and "moderate" wings of the party. I still think that, if any candidate ends up with a plurality by a margin of more than like one percent, it would be extremely risky to give the nomination to anyone else. But if that happens, I don't see anyone but Warren who could really keep things together.

primary today, I would vote for:

I'd be fine with either. I'm with Bernie mostly because he seems the most likely of the two to be able to take the nomination. Also, all the anti-Bernie stuff that I've seen all over the place pushed me more into the Bernie corner as a sort of anti-bullying reaction.

But if Warren rises back up and looks to have a better shot at the nomination, my support is subject to change to her. I've got a couple months to decide.

I will keep defending Bernie, but I'll support Warren as long as she remains a fighter for Bernie-like causes that are her own.

Once again, these are the rules that Sanders himself had a hand in writing -- none of the other candidates can say as much.

None of us have any direct power over the process, I'm expressing my opinion as to whom I think it would be a good idea for the delegates to vote for. That's what we do here, express opinions about politics.

Sanders had a heavy hand in writing the last Democratic party platform, even though Hillary won an outright majority of delegates; therefore, if Sanders expects others to give up their delegates to him to push him over the edge, he better expect to pony up concessions to them.

to being able to hold it all together after the convention if Bernie has a plurality of delegates heading into it and is "denied" the nomination. If Bernie falls far short of a majority entering the convention maybe, if he is very close to a majority, with no other candidate close, nothing short of a Sanders nomination would prevent our ultimate nominee entering into the Fall campaign in worse shape than when we entered the 1968 election.

45% is very different from 30%. If Sanders is close to a majority, but is denied by a 'Anyone But Bernie' block, it won't make a difference who the nominee is, many of his supporters will go elsewhere.

14. Agree with this also. But at some point there is a cusp
Thu Feb 20, 2020, 10:28 AM
Feb 2020

And that cusp will vary from person to person. Personally I think it would be suicide for Democrats to nominate anyone other than Bernie if he as a clear lead going into the convention and over 40% of the delegates. The second round includes a new batch of voters, the Super Delegates. A case can be made that they have a meaningful role to play when delegates are otherwise deadlocked, but the look would be horrible if they piled onto one side and totally swung the math by so doing away from the obvious front runner.

Thu Feb 20, 2020, 10:40 AM

I.E - There are roughly equal votes for Bernie on one side, and the 'moderates' on the other - with Warren in the middle. It does not matter under that scenario how many delegates she actually has. The rationale is - neither side gets all that they want - the choose someone who gives them most of it . In the 'moderates' case that means - not Bernie - and perhaps something like keeping the misdemeanor for unauthorized border crossing on the books.

Form Bernie's side - they will want some accommodation of their people in the next Administration. That's doable.

If Bernie's team feel that they come out of it winning most of their agenda for America in the process, Bernie could perhaps take to the campaign trail in a semi victory lap supporting Warren..

All of this involves a lot of "ifs" and presumes that Bernie wasn't close enough to winning on his own that it would leave too many convinced that he was "robbed".
