The Vermont senator was alone in saying he would back whoever won a plurality of delegates with others open to superdelegates tipping the balance for another candidate at the conventionAmid the Mike Bloomberg pile-on and the Pete Buttigieg-Amy Klobuchar squabbling, there was a key point that slipped by almost unnoticed during Wednesdays tumultuous Democratic debate one that could potentially prevent Bernie Sanders from becoming the nominee.
Towards the end, each of the six candidates was asked if at the Democratic national convention this summer in Milwaukee they would support the person who has won the most delegates even if that person hasnt achieved a majority.
Five of the candidates said they would not. The Democratic socialist and Vermont senator said he would.

(3,764 posts)Bernie or Liz or Biden had a plurality and Klobuchar or any other that didn't have a plurality asked their delegates to support the one who had the plurality, the superdelegates couldn't need to be involved.

(1,713 posts)Sanders will of the people should be followed in 2020 Dem nomination, flip-flopping his position from 2016, where he thought the will of the majority should be overturned.
I suspect if he isnt the delegate or vote leader, hell change his position again.

(6,544 posts)That's not how democracy works. If a candidate has 30% of the votes, and 70% want someone else, why should the 30% guy be given the crown? Any coalition of the others could get a majority, and coalitions are actually how things get done
