Handing Trump a Second Term

https://nuntiatum.home.blog/2020/02/20/handing-trump-a-second-term/

Trump's campaign staff got a good night's rest last night, perhaps their first in months, after the boxing match in Las Vegas. Let that happen again, candidates, and it won't matter who's nominated because Trump will be re-elected.

1. The only way he gets re-elected is if we fail to work & vote for the nominee. WHOEVER that might be.

With the first punch thrown within a minute of opening remarks, last night was good news for them. This is their whole strategy and I'm not convinced they're not behind a lot of the crap that's happening.

I agree, everyone has to be on board with whomever comes out of Milwaukee.

14. Trump's approval rating has been steadily climbing

Feb 2020

It is now 44.2% on 538 consensus after being as high as 44.6% two days ago.

I warned about this as far back as 2017, that Trump's then-37% range would hardly be the cemented norm. It was inevitable that people would become accustomed to his atrocities. In 2018 I predicted that his 538 approval would steadily climb and reach 45% range on election day 2020. Now I'm not sure I wouldn't settle for as low as 45% the way things are going.

This stuff is very easy as a gambler. I don't allow day to day crap or my personal biases or ideology to get in the way.

One dependable indication around here is always the identity of posters who become absent. Some of the sharpest posters become absent when they know that things are moving in the wrong direction. Others are oblivious and keep chirping as if this is still late 2017 and Trump has no chance.

In my case I always assign 8 years to an incumbent and am shocked if it doesn't turn out that way.

3. I don't think so

It was a good debate and at times contentious. The attacks on Bloomberg were justifiable and inevitable. Things got a big snarky at times, but at this point in the race, I suppose it is understandable. I don't think Buttigieg did himself any favors in the way he attacked Klubuchar, but Warren's attacks on Bloomberg seemed to have served her well.

We are reaching the point where the field will thin out even more. I don't see how the debate should make Trump and his campaign staff feel relieved.
