(5,648 posts)Trump is the Republican Party and the Republican Party is Trump. Establishment Republicans have been overthrown and can only get elected if they bow down to Trump on a continuous basis. Trump is no longer just the symptom, he is the disease itself.
I suspect that some of the Republican House and Senate members will be voting against Trump in November because the only way they have a chance of taking back their party is for Trump to lose. And I am not sure that will do it.

Warren may have been passionate but it was not helping the party.
I don't like it when we have candidates from the far left up there. That's what made 2008 so great no matter who you supported. Neither one of those candidates would be rejected by the political math. All I could think about last night was that so many of those candidates required a severe national pro-Democratic tilt to get across the line. Elizabeth Warren would have been a fine nominee if the presidential race were held concurrently with the 2018 midterm. That's not the way this stuff works. Trump's approval is considerably higher now, in fact it's already above where we need it to be in November.

(5,648 posts)Don't get me wrong. I will vote enthusiastically for Bernie or Warren should one of them win the nomination. I will even contribute to the winner's campaign. However, I worry as to whether a socialist or a far left politician can beat Trump, and that is my primary, no, my only objective in this election.
