(96,882 posts)I have 40 years of experience in electoral politics.
I know candidates, elected officials, campaign staff and Party leaders.
I collect and crunch a lot of data on electability.

(421 posts)but I DO know that if we don't flip the senate, nothing progressive will get done. And the only way red leaning states will vote blue is if there is a balanced ticket with a moderate candidate at the top. I like Bernie a lot but he'll lose the Senate for us even if he wins the general.

(945 posts)Most the the new 2018 batch of congresspeople are in purple districts and the majority of voters dont pay attention to local candidates and assume that the down-ballot candidate shares the nominees valueswhich are not their values

(1,782 posts)You'd think the day after Mike Bloomberg got absolutely humiliated on national TV people would be more focused on that instead of the usual dreck about Bernie's electability.

(374 posts)Goes to show how misguided that argument is.
At least have the courage to vote for someone you want.
Nobody is going to respond to the candidate you think is just awful enough to appeal to the caricature of the stupid average voter people seem to have.

(5,685 posts)Once we stop feuding and pivot for general election, I expect things to look very nice.
Besides, we are polling much better with all options in MI, AZ, and PA. And whoever gets the nod isn't going to repeat the 2016 blunder of ignoring those states.

(14,565 posts)I provided those links and the crossover dates in the Predictit thread.
Trump throughout his presidency has always been an underdog, until our nomination shifted toward Sanders a month ago. Now Trump is trading at 57% and it will only go higher if Sanders becomes the nominee.
I believe we will lose the House if Sanders is the nominee. That will unleash Trump to unimaginable levels of devastation upon this country and its future. We only won the House because of an 8+ point generic margin. That was going to be slashed this year anyway but with Sanders the generic ballot edge could be gone completely.

(8,238 posts)I think we could see an even worse case scenario where, if Sanders were nominated, we see a sizable amount of vulnerable down-ballot candidates openly going on the record regarding their disapproval of a Sanders candidacy. And then Sanders and his divisive campaign and Bernie Bro type toxic online followers spend more time attacking them and the Democrats than they do Trump, and it ends up in a bloodbath where they all lose.
We already fucked this up in 2016 -- we can't afford to fuck it up again this go around. Let's just make sure Sanders isn't our nominee and gets nowhere near close enough to lay claim to being our nominee to begin with.
