Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumThis primary post is about Katie Porter, the most proficient dragonslayer in congress today.
Im dreaming big and fighting hard here.
Everyone here at DU who witnessed the grilling of Jamie Dimon by Katie Porter marveled at her calm, matter of fact evisceration of Dimon, one of the most powerful men in the financial industry here and around the globe.
Well, guess who her professor and mentor was......Elizabeth Warren. For some of you last night may have been your first experience seeing Warren in action when confronting power.
Now, imagine how quickly this country could right itself with squadrons of women and public servants of that mold looking out for tthe interests of all instead of the few.
I see one helluva future ahead of us.
For those newer DUers not familiar with Porter:

(2,686 posts)I doubt it will happen, politics being what they are. But just think of these two women running things and collaborating with their counterparts in the Democratic controlled House and -- I tremble to imagine -- Senate!
Yep, then in 8 years, Ms. Porter would be more than equipped and ready to run for number one.
(I still like Stacey Abrams and am, therefore conflicted. But it's like having to choose between Duke Snider and Jackie Robinson. Mrs. Warren, of course, would be the Bambino in this analogy. IQ45 (I love that nick!) would be Arnold Rothstein. (Yeah, I know, if you're not baseball literate and old Dodger fan you'll be less than impressed with all of this, but it all works for me!)

(2,686 posts)As a reader of baseball history, though, not as a spectator or fan. He was a bit before my time. I recall he had the highest batting average in the 20th century -- I think Hugh Duffy beat him out for the all-time, but in the late 1890's when the Boston Club he played for were the Beaneaters or Pilgrims or some such. And I saw somewhere that Cy Young called Napoleon Lajoie the most dangerous hitter he ever faced -- high praise from a guy who won more than 500 games! He was sort of a Cleveland Icon, but hit his 426 working for Cornelius McGillicuddy's Athletics.
But my serious fandom was with the B'klyn Bums. Jackie Robinson remains my all time hero, matching incredible talent and a level of self-control and courage seldom seen in sports. And he stole home on Yogi Berra! And then the Bums left B'klyn for L.A. and I lost most of my passion for them, but followed Sandy Koufax's career as he became the best southpaw in the history of the game.
I could go on and on and on. Baseball, and baseball lore is soft spot.

(2,686 posts)Tris Speaker stands out, as does Ole Hoss Radbourne, Pie Traynor, Shoeless Joe Jackson, Big Ed Walsh, Willie Keeler, Cap Anson, Spalding, Candy Cummings and on and on and on. My favorite aunt used to take me to NYC on my birthday -- no, not a baseball game. She was, I think, fastidious and didn't want to expose me to the cussin', cigar-smoking and beer drinking. But we'd see a movie and the Natural History museum. One year she took me to a book store that sold used as well as new and I picked up a copy of an 8 by 10 soft cover book memorializing the long career of Connie Mack, loaded with pictures and anecdotes. Next to White Fang and Call of the Wild, it was my favorite book and it still bothers me that it got lost in the shuffle of moves from one place to another. That book showed my Connie Macks original monicker: Cornelius McGillicuddy and was full of revelations about the old era as well as anecdotes about the fade of the Philadelphia Athletics from glory.
One of my favorite odd facts: When the 7th Cavalry was being massacred at the Little Big Horn, the Chicago White Stockings were playing a baseball game against the Cincinnati Red Stockings.
