Amy Siskind:A doctor & family watched debate last night and were so put off, they don't plan to vote

Amy Siskind Rainbow flag
@Amy_Siskind
Anecdotal for those of us living in our social media bubbles: just had a doctor appointment, and he mentioned he and his family watched the debate last night - their first - and were so put off by what they saw he said he wasn’t planning vote...
1/

...Which I course countered and explained why he must now. But last night was really a food fight and not a good look for politics - the moderators failed us.
2/

Sharing this to let us all know how those not in the trenches every day on social media experienced last night. It was vicious and not really issue based.

I suspect he is not alone for those not political.
3/

mentions basically said some of the same on MSNBC for people in the room. It was uncomfortable for the audience. People wanted to hear about issues.
4/

-----
I agree with Siskind that last night was really a food fight and not a good look for politics - the moderators failed us.

Very few real details on platforms were shared with us the viewers. What a shit show. This needs to be corrected in the next debate. We need every eligible voter to vote in Nov 2020 to defeat trump.
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Trump is a giant shit-show food-fight. The minute the guy opens his mouth, excrement comes out.

Our people need to fight back tooth and nail. We've always been far too nice. Time to take off the gloves and punch back hard.

most dangerous deterioration of government in U.S. history.

Who distinguishes themselves out of a field of 20 is where the Democratic Party is still at.

All this labeling of how this debate didn't live up to our personal expectations says more about US than the seasoned political party leaders and candidates who've worked with state groups and traveled the country to get information about what the country needs exposure to. Way more effort than TV watchers bother to know.

Complaints about the first five debates were that they were too boring with too much policy, not enough policy, not the right policy. Policy and party values have been done to death.

To repeat them repeats the previous debates.

But to call it a shitshow? Obama would say, Come on. Come ON.

You know, the ones comparing hand size? You know, the party that Russia helped to win?

I don’t want them to be the role model, but we’ve had more policy hyper focused debates this year than Bloomberg has $20’s. I think having one debate with some toughness was long overdue.

discourse at all.

They are free to be ignorant of the reality that "Politics is war without weapons," as Howard Dean once said. That war is about what secures or endangers everyone's freedoms, not just theirs, when people -- troops, children, the sick and disabled -- are dying, suffering under the policies of this current administration, its economic practices and policies.

They are free to complain about what THEY wanted and didn't get; they are free to PROJECT their feelings and unmet expectations as if they presumed a personal right to have these debates tailored to their content and delivery tastes.

Loudly announcing they won't vote is no damning proof of any flaws in U.S. politics, candidates, media, party or campaign system; their announcement is damning proof of their presumptions of precious privilege of only comfort and convenient truth.

Frankly, people too uncomfortable to deal with debate would not like the inconvenience of voting, either.

Freedom. Use it well or lose it.

for 4 years, but a debate where candidates go after each other is what turns him off voting?

People say they want to hear about details on platforms, but vote for the candidates who make the most emotional and loudest arguments regardless of facts. If he was really interested in issues, he'd go look at their policies and make a decision like an adult.
Sounds like someone who was looking for an excuse to avoid responsibility and if it wasn't this, it'd be something else. Can't worry about people like that.
