A direct confrontation would shut them up, since we are a hybrid socialist-capitalist economy.

Most people, the military, government workers, practically everyone is a socialist to some degree.

But, even should he win, most of his program would not get support from moderate Democrats. Getting the swing voters in purple districts to go for Bernie would be difficult on his policies, as purple districts tend toward the center.

The centrist Democrats seeking election and re-election would probably straight out state that Bernie would not get their support to pass the full version of his agenda, but that Bernie, assuming he's nominated as the poll does, should be elected to restore honor and decency to the White House--it might work to say he is an honest old guy who means well, and he will not cause problems, because he lacks sufficient support from Congress and the Senate.

Under this scenario, Bernie would have a chance-- worse than average but a chance.

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

This makes me think a lot of people believe polls they agree with and don't believe polls they don't. It's our version of climate science denial.

There's sour grapes and animosity from last cycle, preferences for other candidates, awful demographics (for Bernie), mistaken impressions of why Trump won, justifiable fear, and just straight up PTSD.

I think all the candidates have electoral strengths and weaknesses, and Trump is a very unusual candidate who's hard to get a read on strategically.
