Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumFolks, the Sanders GE ad write themselves
Bernie Sanders campaigned for the Socialist Workers Party in the 1980 and 1984 presidential campaigns and was investigated by the FBI for his ties to the Marxist group. While Democrats campaigned for President Jimmy Carter in 1980 and Walter Mondale in 1984, Sanders spent the Reagan era supporting fringe Marxists with no chance of reaching the White House. In 1980, Sanders "proudly endorsed and supported" Andrew Pulley, the SWP party's presidential candidate. Sanders was one of three electors for Pulley on the Vermont ballot, stating in a press release: "I fully support the SWP's continued defense of the Cuban revolution." A flier in Sanders' archives shows that he was a featured speaker at the 1982 SWP "Campaign Kick-Off Rally" in Boston for the party's candidates for governor, lieutenant governor, and Congress. Then there us the famous bread line quote,----- "Its funny; sometimes American journalists talk about how bad a country is, that people are lining up for food. That is a good thing. In other countries, people dont line up for food: the rich get the food and the poor starve to death.

(15,148 posts)If that's true, I wouldn't be entirely surprised if they are boosting Bernie Sanders because they believe that he would lose very badly to Trump. I have no data to offer here. It's just an extrapolation from last night's report and today's news.

Bernie won Michigan over Hilliary 4 years ago in the primary, by MORE VOTES than Hillary lost in the general.
Bernie CAN (and will) win swing states.

(4,440 posts)He is, by far, the best candidate.
Now, you can spend all your energy trying to convince everyone that he is going to lose because of the socialistlabel, (republicans have called us socialists since FDR),
-OR-you can quit yer bitchin, work for the election FoR your candidate, and we shall see who has the most delegates by the Convention.
All of us should then work TOGETHER to get our nominee elected in November. This constant screaming that Bernie is a socialist is unbecoming of you all. Lets get to work!

(145,542 posts)TX CD 22 is an open seat with Pete Olson retiring. The DCCC has targeted this seat for flipping. There are 15 candidates in GOP primary including the grandson of GHW Bush. Another candidate, Kathleen Wall, is running in the GOP primary and she spent $6 million in 2018 running in GOP primary for TX CD 2 and did not make GOP primary runoff. I have had Wall block walkers come to my house twice (I live in a very GOP neighborhood) and I have found Wall doorhanger on my door twice now.
Pierce Bush is running against socialism

Sri Preston Kulkarni is the leading Democrat for this seat (Sri has a GOP type and another person running against him in the Texas Democratic Primary) I texted this ad to Sri and he knew about it already. Sri Preston Kulkarni is a great guy and we need to flip this seat
If sanders is the nominee, we can forget about this seat and we will have Kevin McCarthy as speaker

(1,345 posts)if he runs those ads people won't know what they're talking about. "Cuban revolution? Never heard of it."
I think he'll run ads about Bernie's three houses.
