Gowdy on Fox yesterday - 'Nobody really thinks Russia prefers Trump over 'comrade' Bernie Sanders'

I have no doubt the GOP will devote the entire conference to framing Sanders as 'Comrade Bernie', the communist. Trump has said as much - he considers Bernie to be communist. From there, they will seek to make the general election a referendum on 'socialism'.

The party would have to rely heavily on Bloomberg to come through with saturation advertising casting trump, the fossil fuel industry, giant corporations and the rest as 'the real socialists' wallowing in subsidies and tax breaks.

Nevertheless if the GE becomes a referendum on socialism, rather than trump, all is lost.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Socialism is a scare-word they have hurled at every advance the people have made in the last 20 years. Socialism is what they called public power. Socialism is what they called social security. Socialism is what they called farm price supports. Socialism is what they called bank deposit insurance. Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations. Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people.

There is a reason that the Rs REALLY want Bernie as our nominee.

I will note hesitate to vote him in November.

But, unless this does not play out pretty much as you note in the runup, will do so knowing this election will likely be really ugly for the dems, and be the final nail in American democracy.

I am ALREADY seeing the "base" geeking up on SOCIALISM screeds in social media and when I run into them.

Its a fight they know is coming and absolutely relish.

Sanders has been demonizing the 'billionaire class' for four years. He can back the nominee - without credibility.

You know, a lot of Sanders supporters like to say that he is taking the mantle of FDR. However, FDR was smart enough to never, ever, refer to himself as a "Socialist", no matter how many government programs he started, or how much he raised taxes. That is because FDR knew that being labeled a Socialist, and having it stick, would be the kiss of death for him as a politician. This is the one thing that Bernie Sanders has never figured out--that he may be able to get away with calling himself a Socialist in deep-blue Vermont, but running as a Socialist in the general election would be like Sisyphus trying to roll a boulder uphill while never reaching the top.
