With some hesitation, Sanders said Im not going to tell you that he and I are best friends, but were friends. And I have talked to him on and off for the last many years, was sitting down alone with him in the oval office on more than one occasion, talk to him on the telephone every now and then.

Yes I do. Everybody Im sure is tugging at his sleeve. Ive talked to him a couple times in the last month or two, and Im sure everybody else has, Sanders said.
But according to Doveres sources, Obama and Sanders have only spoken on the phone once since a 2018 in-person meeting:

(10,721 posts)He said that he's spoken to Obama a couple of times over the last month or two and that the other candidates probably have, as well.
He did not say he speaks with Obama a couple of times a month.
Just stop.

(628 posts)Spoken to president Obama twice in the last month or so.
Here's a thought, Bernie, pick up that phone and dial. Actually speaking to the most liked federal politician in America would do the Vermont senator much more good than fibbing about it.

(1,713 posts)Sanders. His politics, his unwillingness to give an inch and his and his congressional followers undercutting our candidates at every turn. A man who was able to bring people together and form winning coalitions standing next to a almost 80 year old man on stage in Milwaukee will be a contrast that haunts our party

Senator Sanders is curmudgeonly and he often let's his vision of perfection get in the way of real progress.
But-- Bernie isn't the sadist in our White House, whose jealousy of Barack Obama is more vital to him than any of his actual presidential duties.
We can debate whether Bernie, like unfortunately many on the left, resent president Obama for accomplishing so much that used to only live in day dreams in this country.
However, that conversation is entirely different than this administration's systemic attempt to undermine anything remotely associated with Barack Obama.
Bernie likes the Iran deal, for example. Conversely, this president would throw out an actual cure for cancer if Barack Obama was in any way connected to it. You know it's true.
Bernie may be stuck in the '60's, but he is sane and normally empathetic.

(32,701 posts)I don't think of him as a pathological liar... Yet... But I'm pretty sure he lied about what he said to Warren about women being unelectable, and now it's possible he's lying about his communication with Pres Obama.
Frankly, I don't see his statement regarding their friendship as credible, considering his own remarks about how he doesn't even bother to call friends/colleagues/associates on their birthdays. Then when you factor in his grumpy demeanor and comments about Obama needing to be primaried back in 2012, it seems even less likely that he's telling the truth.
Bernie, you are many things, but please don't add "liar" to the list of adjectives.

(36,053 posts)Pretty soon we're going to have to see who the voters want and lead from ahead, not from behind.
Keep this kind of news up, but keep in mind that we'll have to move out of our difference zone and into the unity zone.
The more we dwell in disunity now, the harder that shift will be in September.

(628 posts)You know.
Perhaps the Senator should watch his words more carefully?
Or pick up the phone and call president Obama and listen to him.
That would do the Vermont Senator a world of good and help a lot more to achieving actual unity.

(4,435 posts)It sure is amazing what CRAP those who are trailing in the primaries come up with to try and damage the man leading the polls.
Please let us know when you all are done with this. Id like to get away from all the name calling and fratricide and get back to debating actual policy and platform issues. Can we please?
Thank you.

(628 posts)Me thinks you just might have a case of the inevitables. Neither 25% (in second by delegates), nor polls make anyone a presidential nominee.
Have patience. We will have a nominee in the blink of the eye. In the meantime, if Bernie is the candidate an easy primary will make him a worse candidate.
Fibbing about your relationship with Barack Obama, a favorite in most circles, is not good politics, policy or anything else.
This is especially true when it is clear Bernie Sanders could pick up the phone and actually talk to the man, instead of pretending he has done so.
