(1,353 posts)I'm at a lost for what makes Bernie so desirable?? He turned me off in '16 and even more now. I'm done with the angry yelling of his same old talking points and it so scares me that he can't beat Trump. Now with his campaign knowing about the Russia help a month ago and not saying anything is even more troubling. We don't need a total change of every way of american life right now, we need to calm this disaster of Trump and get back on Track. Sanders is not the right candidate in my opinion...

(10,156 posts)Amazing how much can change in just four years. But after the past couple of months and everything is coming out of the last couple days I'm just so done with Sanders. He's just a divisive as Trump is.

(28,120 posts)I'm now agreeing. I've supported Joe in this race but haven't hated Bernie. That's changed.
We're fighting for the survival of our democracy and Bernie hasn't a snowball's chance against ending-democracy tRump.
Bernie CANNOT be our candidate.

(3,056 posts)I'm at a loss, too. Got one of his caucusers to admit that taxes would go up on income over $29,000, so the claim of taxing "millionaires & bilionaires" is about as valid as Mexico paying for the wall. I think I'm like vast majority of folks here...I'm voting Blue. I just don't think Bernie can beat Trump, and I'm not sure I could handle having to listen to my least favorite college professor rant for 4 years because there's no way he'll be able to get anything passed. Which was another thing my friend today couldn't answer...just how is he going to get the necessary votes on these huge increases?
I really think we need to start concentrating on holding onto the House and getting control of the Senate. Even if Trump wins, he'll be toothless without Mitch letting him do whatever he wants. Might even be able to get him out of there. But I'm sorry, I just don't think Sanders can beat him. The Trump campaign will photo shop him into a picture of the old commissars, show old newsreel footage of breadlines, old ladies sweeping streets, and generally miserable living conditions. They'll show pictures of him and Castro. They'll talk about him honeymooning in Russia. They'll call him a communist and he can protest all he wants, it won't matter. He can talk about socialism around the world, it won't matter. He can talk about the successful socialist programs we have in this country, it won't matter. They'll literally make shit up, we'll prove it's a lie, and it won't matter.
If Bernie gets the nomination, I hope to hell I'm wrong. I've never wanted to be wrong about anything this much in my life. But I've seen too many decent men get blown out by crooks, criminals, and those who thought only of themselves...McGovern, Carter, Mondale, and Dukakis come to mind. And, of course, Hillary.

(3,678 posts)I'd be happy to vote for Joe. Personally, I'd put myself in the Sanders/Warren camp, but Joe's a good candidate. He has lots of experience, and is well suited to compete in critical battleground states.

(2,030 posts)Joe Biden is the "enemy of my enemy": Trumputin. (Trump and Putin are wholly inseparable now. Hence the Brangelina-esque nickname.) Bernie is NOT the friend of my enemyfar from itbut he is definitely the preferred candidate of my enemy, which makes me, unfortunately, less than happy about the prospect of Bernie being the Democratic candidate.
I love Joe and I have confidence in his decades of experience and his ability to unite the country (as much as that is possible these days) and to undo the havoc Trumputin has wreaked. But a big reason I'm for Joe is because I think he has the most crossover appeal to disenchanted Republicans who voted for Trump but who now (secretly) admit to themselves that Trumputin is, to quote Stephen King: "Crooked as a broken nose and dumb as a fencepost." We could win over some Republican voters with Joe. With Bernie, not so much.
I voted for Bernie in the 2016 primaries, and I will absolutely vote for him if he wins the nomination, but dang! I'm afraid the Trumputin MixMaster will chop him to bits.
Trumputin and Faux News are already pumping their brainwashed followers full of the message that Bernie and the Democrats want SOCIALISM and that SOCIALISTS are COMMUNISTS, and these socialist-communist liberals will not only take your guns away, but will take away all of your hard-earned money and redistribute it to the lazy, irresponsible, good-for-nothing poor people, and (horror of all horrors!) punish the wealthy for being rich, and while they're at it, truck in illegal immigrants by the caravan-full.
I live between a small city and a tiny town, and I have already seen letters to the editor in both of these small towns' newspapers from Trump supporters warning people about the "socialist threat" that Democrats pose.
Bernie would be a great president and his policies would elevate everyone in this country, so if he wins the nomination and the general election, hallelujah! But . . . what if he doesn't win?
I'm all in for Biden, too. But if he doesn't win, I will fight like hell for Bernie to win the general election (or Elizabeth or Mayor Pete).
