3. Stop buying it and if more people did the same, price will collapse

It is demand based price. It probably costs $1 to produce.

Diet coke has artificial sugars which are proven carcinogenic in animal tests.
It has no vitamins, no minerals, not even calories to give you energy.
It is truly a horrible investment of food dollars.

5. Nope, they used aluminum tartiffs to increase the price.
Sat Feb 22, 2020, 10:52 PM
Feb 2020

As the price of all canned drinks went up the same. However, aluminum is a traded commodity and when the price falls like it has 5 years prior to tariffs, the price if drinks remain. Fuel is also a commodity that rises and falls with the market....
And the formula for inflation is flawed and should not be tied to the simplistic Consumer Price Index that excludes many important figures in the cost of living.
A simple answer for a Warren supporter . She founded the Consumer Protection Agency under Obama.
And despite the nutritional value of Diet Coke, it blends well with the oh so nutritious bourbon on boring Saturday evenings.

Do you know how much the empty can weighs?
Do you know current price of aluminum/lb?
After you know that important information, get back to me.
Hint: cost is smaller than you think.

I was being generous when I said it costs $1 to produce 12 cans of soda.
You drink bourbon regularly? I would hate to see how bad your liver is if you do.
Don't mean to scare you, but alcoholics do not live very long on average.
Better way to get high is practice meditation and yoga.
I am 80 years old and I run a mile and half in 25 minutes every other day.
I don't drink diet drinks, and limit my alcohol to one drink in a week.

17. It was you who brought up cost of aluminum as the reason for price increase of soda

not me. I never said you are an alcoholic, it was you who said you like bourbon with coke.
What I said was "if you drink too much"....do you understand the meaning of word "if"?
And it is not late for me, I stay up every night until mid-night. Here in Florida, it is hot during the day,
so we do more activities late in the evening, and siesta during afternoon.

4. a gallon of 2% milk was $2.29 (and sometimes as low as $1.99). Now it is $2.79

Likewise up a minimum of 22% and that's for non-branded locally produced milk. Organic has become ridiculously expensive.

Fortunately, I gave up soft drinks long ago. I'm more concerned about food inflation.

10. Chicken breast cost $18-$21 at Publix for an 8 pack.

I read that the "Trimp" admin has been buying up some agricultural products like chicken and pork to "help" farmers. But small and medium sized farms are suffering while consumers are paying a lot more at retail. Who is getting the money on both ends?

damn that looks sad in print but it's my life.. i shop in small portions, and try to eat everything before i shop for more, otherwise leftovers get tossed/wasted ...
other than certain basics, like milk (2% with a 2 week use by) and other basics, i try to buy just enough to fill my self for a day or two tops...
so i see the prices often enough to notice upticks... and in the last 2
weeks EVERYTHING has shot up easily 10-15% . imo and my experience
i'm on a fixed income, with medical bills newly tossed into play, so i notice things
that affect my meager bottom line... i think it's going to get worse sooner than later, again, imo

8. The same pain
Sat Feb 22, 2020, 11:12 PM

The cost of eating is getting squeezed by the cost of healthcare.
Gotta be frugal to make it on $100 a week, so my bourbon budget seems to take the biggest hit.

9. I go the opposite direction, I buy in bulk to save money, for instance 2 gallons of generic milk
Sat Feb 22, 2020, 11:19 PM
Feb 2020

and then I freeze some of it, I buy a 20 pound bag of rice from Walmart for $8.48, and I never, never, never throw out food or leftovers. If I make too much of a dish then I eat it the next day or if I just can't, then I put it in a freezer bag (and freeze it) until the day that I can finish it, that goes for rice, spaghetti, even oatmeal, just about anything, I never ever waste food or fixed income money.

13. I tend to buy higher priced stuff.

But I don't eat a lot. I don't eat rice. I eat things like blueberries, macadamia nuts, apples, pineapple, all are pricey on a per pound basis, but I eat so little that I don't notice, unless prices spike and even then I notice but there is no impact for me. The only meat that I eat regularly is chicken breasts, an 8 pack of those make around 24 meals for me (given my family history, getting enough meat protein, but not too much is important). Occasionally I will buy some beef burger, but I do that maybe once every four months. I also occasionally eat premium ice cream, but again, maybe once every four to five months. I don't have medical or drug bills that are significant, maybe $10-$25 per month on average for things like Vitamin D and B12 supplements. So in a way, I am lucky, my expense profile in very low.

14. But the people who own 85% of food stocks (TOP 10%)
Sat Feb 22, 2020, 11:50 PM
Feb 2020

are getting rich every year for last 40 years. Trump gave me 1.6% cost of living raise in social security.
It is a cruel joke isn't it? But all the presidents before were not more generous either.

Keep in mind, food prices won't drive you into bankruptcy. It is the medical bills!
So please be sure to do regular exercise! It is the best method to avoid medical bills.
I am 80 years old, and I pay zero for the only prescription of Lisinopril 10mg from Human Medicare Advantage plan.
My only medical bill is Medicare deductions every month. How do I do it?

I drag my old ass to the Gym every other day. I get on the treadmill and try to move 1.5 miles in 20 minutes.
After that I lift 10 lb weights for 15 minutes. That helps keep my muscle mass in arms and upper body.
Every person tells me they thought I was in my mid-60's.
When I did not do regular exercise (during my working years) I had many health issues and was forced to
retire early in my 50's. The exercise routine has cured all my health problems.

And another great benefit of rigorous exerciser is....I eat anything and everything including many visits to fast food.
I like Arby's, Burger King and Taco Bell. I hate vegetables, so eat none except avocadoes. I eat all day long in small
quantities. Peanuts, wheat crackers with peanut butter, and 2 banana's every day. And eggs are cheap so I consume
2 every day. My HMO doctor keeps testing me for heart issues and can't find any.

We just bought six packs of 16.9oz of bottles, that with a coupon, were like $1.25 (less than a single bottle out of a vending machine). It was A&W or Dr. Pepper, but the deals for Coke and Pepsi are nearly as good.

For people that drink that stuff, shopping around for the 2 for the price of 1 and loading up as much as their budget allow snakes sense. I stopped drinking milk years ago, so I have no clue what prices and promotions on it are.
