I don't get all the negative posts about Bernie.

This is the Democratic primaries and like it or not this is the way it's done. Isn't letting voters decide what we have been asking for ? I certainly would like my chosen candidate to win but unless someone shows me something is amiss here then we have to let it play out. It's still early and whomever becomes the nominee will have to work within the party to put forth their agenda. If we continue to work to get out the vote then we will beat Trump. If we continue to look defeated and disappointed with our candidates how do we expect voters to be enthused.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Bernie's just honest about the problems in both parties. That's why more and more people love and trust him.

Improve the Democratic party. Don't shoot the messenger. Bring back the TRADITIONAL Democratic values. That's what Bernie represents ☀️. With the exception of Warren, so many Dems have shifted towards a pro-corporate agenda. Don't get me started on Bloomberg whose economic policies drove me and most of my neighbors out of NYC. And it wasn't slow growth "gentrification." It was leveraged development dumping on a massive scale.

in 1980. I have always voted for the party’s nominee. There are a lot of people like me who supported Sanders in 2016 and still do today.

Sanders is not talking about rank and file Democrats. If you’ll look at the polls, you’ll see that most party members not on DU understand that. Just the opposite, in fact. He has built a broad and deep coalition of committed Democrats who appreciate his pre-Reagan, pre-Third Way Democratic values.

The race isn’t over. Some other candidate may still catch fire and win the nomination. Whoever wins will have my vote and enthusiastic support. Should that happen, I am certain that person would likewise have Sanders’s support.

Like the vast majority of Sanders’s 2016 supporters, I voted for HRC in the general election. Sanders participated in 40 rallies in support of her run for the White House. We are all in this together.

And dropping the resentment and putting the chip on his shoulder into his pocket. The enemy is not "establishment Democrats," and we shouldn't be put in the same category as Republicans.

If Sanders gets the nomination, he will need all Democrats, even/especially "the establishment," whoever he means by that, to get out and work crazy hard and vote to counteract the Russian crookedness and Trump's vicious calumny. This would be a good time to make us all feel more enthusiastic about that, instead of making us wonder, "Does he mean ME? My state chairperson? His fellow Democratic senators? mad with his inevitability. But just to bring some balance to that idea, Biden was a frontrunner for
close to a year. This whole thing is just beginning.

Bernie did not do, so far, better in Nevada than in 2016. So is he bringing new voters? And Bernie
is in a lane by himself at this point, whereas Biden had five competitors.

There will be serious voter reservations about Bernie in swing states, where Biden is still considered, according to polling, the most likely to best Trump.

Biden also did better with AA voters in Nevada than Bernie, and again, that’s with splitting the vote.

That’s also with Biden being vetted and Bernie not yet.

And there are still several other candidates to consider other than Bernie’s second in Nevada, the first state that resembles the rest of America, but still, a caucus.

If I were to vote in a presidential

Sun Feb 23, 2020, 12:25 AM
Feb 2020

in policy. Sanders has also never favored the neoliberalism favored by most Democratic leadership after Carter.

Sanders proposals essentially calls for an enactment of FDR's 2nd Bill of Rights:

The Second Bill of Rights was proposed by United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt during his State of the Union Address on Tuesday, January 11, 1944.[1] In his address, Roosevelt suggested that the nation had come to recognize and should now implement, a second "bill of rights". Roosevelt argued that the "political rights" guaranteed by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights had "proved inadequate to assure us equality in the pursuit of happiness". His remedy was to declare an "economic bill of rights" to guarantee these specific rights:

Employment (right to work)

Food, clothing and leisure with enough income to support them

Farmers' rights to a fair income

Freedom from unfair competition and monopolies

Housing

Medical care

Social security

Education

vs. those of his competitors. He will eventually have to show what makes him our best candidate to lead the American people, to lead a superpower among superpowers, to lead internationally, and to be the leader of the free world.

Since voters in some states we need to win do not favor his proposals and in any case, that is all they are, not what he has done, but just what he has promised, he does have to show some other cred.

Some see the first test of leadership being an opportunity to disclose that the Russians are trying to help him and, in view of a recent heart attack, to disclose more details about his condition or any others than heart health. Some feel he has failed that test.

Many folks want FDR's vision but few pols are willing to go there.

This most recent disclosure of Russian election interference to favor Sanders appears forced to me; a twofer in that the support for Sanders is not real but Russian-backed and an opportunity to slur Sanders for lack of disclosure. To think that Sanders was the only pol told or otherwise made aware of current Russian election psyops and other manipulations is crazy talk and is just as likely GOP BS.

I would rather have a younger and healthier POTUS than Sanders (I am a senior myself) but he has provided health records that some could say he failed to deliver. Looks just as likely to be GOP BS to me as well.

89. Which of the F.D.R. Wannabes Actually Understands New Deal Liberalism?
Sun Feb 23, 2020, 01:55 AM
Feb 2020
Suddenly, Franklin D. Roosevelt is all the rage. But many Democrats don’t understand what his legacy means.

Suddenly [...] Roosevelt is alive again in the 2020 Democratic primary campaign: His ideas for using government to improve lives echo through stump speeches across Iowa and New Hampshire.

But there’s a right way and a wrong way to revive Roosevelt. Before we allow anyone to assume his mantle, let’s separate candidates merely seeking inspiration for big ideas from those misappropriating his legacy.

Bernie Sanders, the most explicit of the Roosevelt wannabes, is in the latter category. He has repurposed the “Second Bill of Rights” address on his website to report that Roosevelt was constantly attacked as a socialist, so he must have actually been one — just like the independent senator from Vermont. He’s betting that a younger post-Cold War generation won’t conflate his brand of democratic socialism with communism, as many of their elders wrongly do.

But Roosevelt was an improvisational pragmatist — a “juggler,” he called himself — not a socialist. While his idea for Social Security contained socialistic elements (as did George W. Bush’s 2008 bank bailout), he understood that in a nation of strivers, the concept is a political loser.

When asked his political philosophy, he replied: “I’m a Christian and a Democrat, that’s all.”

snip==================================================================

Running for re-election in 1936, Roosevelt said of his big-money critics: “They are unanimous in their hate of me and I welcome their hatred.”

But when Mr. Sanders quotes that line in his stump speech, he doesn’t mention that Roosevelt soon tacked to the center. He rebuffed calls for national health insurance as impractical, backed a balanced budget, insisted that most welfare be connected to work and supported free trade.

As World War II approached, he abandoned the New Deal entirely and invited the corporate titans who loathed him to help him win it. With the end of the war in sight, he renewed his liberal domestic agenda with the landmark G.I. Bill, which inspired today’s Democratic focus on affordable education.

DU in the beginning was a tiny little unknown website where Democrats and people who lean Democratic could commiserate Bush's selection as President and, after 9-11, express opposition to the Iraq war. By 2004, supporting Howard Dean on this site and refusing to back a candidate who voted for the war got a lot of people kicked off. The same thing happened in 2016, where Sanders and his supporters were harassed and condemned to a point that a lot were kicked off and many others just quit coming.

DU is now probably one of the biggest Democratic websites on the internet and don't think the Democratic Party doesn't know it. They most certainly have a presence here, as do conservatives and and even Russians, as evidenced by the fact that they actually went to the effort to hack DU in 2016.

It's not really 'underground' if everyone knows about it and uses it to serve their own purposes.

The DU of today is not the DU of the GWB years.

I am troubled that so many well spoken posters left and how those voices are loosely grouped as Russian bots now.

The big sin is to not support the failed policies of neoliberalism, failed in that the "goods" derived from neoliberalism could have been achieved by other, often cheaper, methods. Failed in that look at the mess we are in now.

That said, I am a supporter of Warren this cycle but perhaps she is best left in the Senate or moved to Cabinet or VP.

90. Which of the F.D.R. Wannabes Actually Understands New Deal Liberalism?
Sun Feb 23, 2020, 02:01 AM

When asked his political philosophy, he replied: “I’m a Christian and a Democrat, that’s all.”

snip==================================================================

Bill, which inspired today’s Democratic focus on affordable education.

will start to wane, and then acceptance will set in... that's when we can begin the process of uniting behind Bernie and his progressive agenda for working class folks. It's just gonna take some time... but, eventually, we'll all come together in support of Bernie, as our nominee, like we did for Hillary & for all nominees in past general elections. It's what we do as loyal Democrats!!
