(630 posts)But anybody at this point can make a case as the unifying force, because of the uncertainty of Bloomberg's effect on delegates to the convention.

(2,706 posts)That can get an outright majority. Thats Bernie and Joe. Thats it.
Thats just the facts. Everything else results in a Sanders plurality and a contested convention.

(16,685 posts)and I don't think she has one. I do, however, retain her as my preference while she is in the race because I've always supported her and she is who I would vote for if I had the choice. My second is Sanders.

(3,678 posts)And Warren is not the nominee (which would be great, although i share your skepticism) I have little doubt that Warren will be a major influence, whether she remains a senator or gets a cabinet post. At least, I certainly hope she's invited to roll up her sleeves and do her thing.

Biden must win South Carolina. If Bernie wins, its over.

(99,716 posts)Joe has a path because he still has the loyalty of African Americans and older voters but they'll leave him if he loses SC. If he loses SC it's because the former already left him.
If Joe loses it's over.

Because Bloomberg is not a Dem, hes a fucking Republican.
Say what you will about Bernie, but he has always caucused with the Dems. Id take him over stop and frisk Bloomberg (who was still defending the policy as recently as 2015) any day of the week. Hell, Id take Gabbard over Bloomberg.

(649 posts)Hes worse than Bernie. At least Bernies consistent. Bloomberg changes his stripes whenever it serves his personal purpose.

(649 posts)She hasnt flip flopped back and forth to serve her personal interests. For at least ten years, and probably longer, shes been a consistent, tenacious proponent of a well-regulated capitalism and protection of the consumer. Id bet dollars to donuts that Bloomberg would implement an unfettered free market economy if he had his way.

(36,361 posts)He endorsed Obama in 2012, Hillary in 2016, donated million to Dems running for House seats in the 2018 election and helped win that chamber for us. Arguably doing more to help win the House that year then all the other candidates combined. Bloomberg has been attacked for years by the NRA and pro-gunners for his work on passing common sense gun control laws and supporting candidates who favor gun control laws. Bloomberg has an outstanding record on climate change. And this election Bloomberg has donated millions once again to down ticket Dems.

If Bloomberg gets the nod, he gets my vote.
I just hope and pray that, should he ascend to the presidency, he doesnt become an autocrat.
Ive worked with guys like him as a corporate attorney with a Wall Street law firm (yes, I sold out and worked with the enemy for five years out of law school to pay off my massive student loans). I know how they think, how they act. Demanding* doesnt begin to describe them. When they say jump, youre expected to say, How high? These guys dont believe in checks and balances. They believe they know the best and only way to do things and rule with an iron fist. In this respect, Bloomberg would be no better than Trump.
*tyrannical is the best fit to describe the mindset and attitude of these CEO and venture capitalist types

(11,996 posts)But things are unpredictable. And especially if we end up with a brokered convention, who knows what can happen? We're now in a situation where winning the nomination may not require a majority or even plurality of delegates before the start of the convention. So even if nothing else, there's the viable path. You maybe just want to get there with whatever strength you can.
