David Cay Johnston: Trump Republicans "giddy or smug" over Nevada; NeverTrumpers & Dems distraught

I hope most people here know who Johnston is, since he's on cable news often.

Every Trump Republican at social event tonight in Rochester giddy or smug; every NeverTrumpGOPer & Dem aghast or distraught that Bernie won Nevada, asking “how can Sanders possibly win the Electoral College?”

FYI. Just FYI.

Bernie likely can win the popular vote on Nov 3. But that’s irrelevant. Electoral College is ALL that matters.

Politics reporters should focus on how he will do against Donald in these states- Arizona
Carolinas
Florida
Georgia
Michigan
Minnesota
Ohio
Pennsylvania

__

Editing to add that since Johnston mentioned NeverTrumpers, I checked tonight's tweets from a NeverTrumper who's quoted fairly often here, Tom Nichols.

Here's his comment on the EC:

You can all stop explaining to me what Sanders will do and why it'll be awesome or terrible. The Electoral College is going to obviate all those discussions. If he gains the nomination, start thinking ahead to dealing with that second Trump term.

And as for that second Trump term:

When Trump wins again, during his second term we will have the most serious civil-military crisis in our history. It'll make Truman-Macarthur look like a mild spat. What form it will take, I can't predict, but it'll happen.
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

the spoiler vote from other parties is also a factor in all states where it's possible. GOPers are the ones who try to vote illegally so it makes sense they would stoop to such measures.

They seem to have utopian ideas of white supremacy dancing in their empty heads.

While the others were wondering what was going on in Nevada, Bernie was in Texas having huge rallies all over the state. I give bernie credit for working hard. Remember when joe took days off. Bernie went to California during those times to campaign. We are so lucky we have a fighter winning the nominee.

Don’t trust these misguided voters to tell you what they really want with their silly voting and their aspirations, we, the commentariat (I actually like David Cay Johnson) will tell you what Republicans at parties you’ll never be invited to think who they’ll win against. Wink wink, nudge nudge, be afraid, be demoralized, run into the warm, safe embrace of Joe Biden, Buttigieg, Klobuchar, you name it. What a hot load of horsesh*t.

Until we get rid of the electoral college, the popular vote is bit meaningless.
Congress is skewed the same way.
Maybe we should try a candidate who's policy positions are supported by 72% of democrats and a majority of republicans, rather than one supported by Goldman Sacks.

Hmmm.

Yes, Handsome Joe is my chosen candidate. I also believe he has a fairly good chance of winning this narrow minded, backward thinking state. I think he could appeal to the old, conservative demographic that turns out in droves here on Election Day and believe me-they do turn out- much more reliably than the young’s. No way in hades is bs gonna get their vote. It’s just not going to happen. He is not an attractive or relatable candidate to a big part of the voting public here. I wish I could think otherwise but I’m old too and I’ve lived in this state for a very long time and bs is not the candidate we need imo.
