MA Senate seat: I'm torn about my vote

I'll start off by saying that I don't believe for one minute that the seat will go red.

I like Ed Markey. He's represented our state well, and the fact that he's been in the Senate for a while gives him some seniority when it comes to committee assignments. If, by the grace of God the Dems take the Senate, Markey could end up with a pretty important committee assignments regarding energy and the environment.

On the other hand, there's a part of me that wants to see some young liberal blood coming into the picture. I know it sounds morbid, but eventually the more senior folks will either resign or die off. What if that happens at a time when the seat is competitive in a General Election?

And I believe Mr. Kennedy will do just fine in that seat. I like him just fine.

So, I begin to ask myself: Do I vote to keep Markey and the standing he currently has in the U.S. Senate, or is this the time to bring in some new blood?

Anyone have any thoughts?

The seat every cycle.

We need a younger person to potentially groom for the presidency. Markey will only be a senator.

So nice we're not dealing with that Scott Brown nonsense anymore. (Thank you Senator Warren!)

Vote for him in the primary and whoever wins in the general. New blood is a necessary thing especially for the senate. It doesn’t hurt anything to vote with your heart in the primary. And as the saying goes for the general senate race it’s blue no matter who.

Congress. Keep the person who's had the committee power to keep MA's voice influencing Congress.

I lived a couple of houses down from Markey’s official residence when he was a US Rep.

I know how he grew up and I’d take someone with his roots over a Kennedy any day.

I think Joe should develop more as a US Rep.

A Democrat is going to win in November and Elizabeth Warren is going to be in the cabinet at the very least, hopefully president but she’ll be something.

Kennedy can run in the special election for that seat in just a few months and you guys won’t lose all of your seniority at once.

Markey has been an outstanding senator. You could end up with much worse. Joe isnt going anywhere, he’ll be around in Jan.

It disappointed me actually that Joe would run against someone so good.

You don't maybe see Markey in a cabinet post?

I'm not saying I don't like Warren...

I just wonder if what you say about her going to the cabinet (if not the White House), and Kennedy filling her seat in a special election wouldn't also be true of Markey.

Elizabeth has the background and expertise fitting more slots and she’s already made a move.

Markey is content to serve the people of Massachusetts and I hope you guys let him do it.
