What happens with the Democratic Party if Trump wins a second term?

This post is not meant to further divide the Party, but rather, to look at the near future in a more realistic view. The Party will have no choice but to unite or to separate and begin anew.

Has anyone forced themselves to think of this possibility? Granted, it is not a pleasant thought.

But, is it possible?

Some say not only possible but likely.

Will the Party be able to unite or will it be splintered beyond repair?

In my opinion, this is the historical turmoil we may be entering?

This election is maybe the most important election of our lifetimes, in regards to the survival of the Democratic Party.

Let us vote with our eyes wide open.

It's very discouraging to say, however, in all honesty, I truly believe the damage that has been been done to the party's unity cannot be reversed in time for the election. The smears and the attacks and the lies and the division and suspicion and resentment... I do not believe our party can unite in time to defeat Trump. Sad and discouraging.

One of the biggest reasons for the division is how we're constantly being told by someone that the Democrats are "corrupt" and "feeble" and "ideologically bankrupt" and "intellectually bankrupt" and "a complete failure" and "no different than the GOP" and "the same as the GOP" and "the party of the elite" and the "party of the one-percent" and "the party doesn't care about climate change" and "the party doesn't care about the working man" and "the party focuses too much on diversity". --- All of those things are LIES. Destructive and divisive lies.

All I'm saying is this: when high profile politicians and their surrogates keep smearing the party with LIES like that... it makes me wonder why any rational person believes that the voters will magically "come around to the Democrats" when they've had it drilled into their heads that their vote won't matter anyway.

Negativity generates apathy. Apathy discourages voter turnout. Low voter turnout gives Republicans a chance to steal the elections.

4. Democratic party is outlawed.

Through the looking glass darkly -

All registered Democrats will be fired from the federal & state governments and the party labeled as terrorist. California (maybe also Oregon and Washington) will be invaded to arrest its Democratic leaders. People will be given 30 days to reregister as Republicans or they will be fired and their children removed from public schools. The nation will rise up in revolt and there will be blood in the streets as the military backs up the illegal CIC. This will be the main event that PUtin has planned for so he can be in total control of our government and stop our interference through NATO when he starts invading countries that used to be part of the USSR - probably starting with Ukraine. Free public schools will be ended, all labor laws, including 40 hour work week and OT pay will be ended, all environment regulations - gone, Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid cut to the bone and made block grants which will cover next to nothing within 3 years, ending of ER guarantees. This is what they intend to do, change us to a rw fascist nation where workers and the poor have no rights, no healthcare, no education, no birth control and no life expectancy. They have been trying for this since the 1920's and are so much closer now than these evil fucks ever were before due to repugs converting to traitors.

...in that, Trump and the Repubs will continue with the deconstruction of the "administrative state", with the intent to repeal SS, Medicare, and most legislation from the New Deal forward.

The only thing that might stop it would be a huge economic downturn (a depression), or a war, or internal rebellion.

I do not think they would try to arrest every Democrat. Maybe only the rabble rousers?

How recently the imminent demise of the GOP was confidently predicted. That if they did not implode and collapse they would fade away within a couple decades as they all died off.

Yet here it is the vibrant Democratic party, supported by growing numbers of youth that may not survive the coming months...

We need to vote but the Russians already have the vote fixed...

Even if the vote isn't fixed, Pence won't certify the election and Republicans will leave Trump in office...

And if the vote is certified Trump will refuse to leave office, his armed followers will occupy the White House and DC then will force Congress to declare Trump President...

I don't know which doom scenario to believe anymore. Should I just believe all of them?

Conservatives would control the court for the next 10 - 15 years at minimum. Any liberal agenda during that time will be impossible because it will fail a court challenge. Reproductive rights will be curtailed, "religious liberty" laws will be upheld. Voter suppression will expand and be protected. Gun control will be squashed.

it is amazing how dire the situation is and we have a large fraction in this party wanting to remodel the entire house while the kitchen is on fire.

17. Adding U.S. terrotories as States would stop republicans from add more seats
Mon Feb 24, 2020, 03:44 PM
Feb 2020

because the Senate controls the Supreme Court and adding States counter balances the electoral college which now heavily favors republicans. That will change after adding States with more diverse Demographics. FDR could not add seats because he didn't have the support of his own party. Before then the court was expanded all the way up until 1869. We could get it done once we get the congress,Presidency and the Senate. If we take a lesson from modern repukes. When they want something they vote for it and don't care what anybody else thinks.

We should repeal the 1869 judiciary act add seats to the Supreme Court and add all inhabited U.S. territories as States. There would be no point doing one without doing the other.

The slide into a corrupt, authoritarian chrisofascist state has been exponential just since he started running. As everyone has noted, post Mueller and now post senate not convicting him, his confidence and bad actions have been supercharged.

We have 8 LONG months until the actual election to march this thing even further.

He wins, and it is done. He will NOT leave office (heck, even if he loses), and his dimwitted spawn will be the designated next in line.

The whole thing completely unravels at that point.
