Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumHow TrumPutin's Falsebook bots are screwing with Democrats. (a personal story)
A friend of my wife (a real anti-Trump person I've met, so not a bot) posted something to the effect that if Sanders wins the nomination, she'll vote for a third party. Her post indicates that she thinks Sanders is the reason Trump "won" in 2016. She apparently missed the part where votes for third-parties such as Putin plant Jill Stein actually put Trump within cheating distance. So she plans to help install Trump as King if she doesn't get her favorite nominee.
People, if you are on Falsebook, don't let your "friends" get suckered into this bot-powered trap. Snap them out of it!

(3,212 posts)That, coming from a Bernie supporter, this advice is pretty funny.
But I'm blue no matter who.

(30,613 posts)FYI, Bernie supporters who are Democrats are also Blue No Matter Who.
Apparently, some of his supporters in 2016 never were Dems; we never had them to begin with.

(9,263 posts)btw, bernie did have some impact the 2016 outcome by not "bowing" out earlier and spending the last few months of the primary season in building support for hillary. But we don't need facebook to tell us that if we had our eyes open in 2016

(30,613 posts)If you stay home, you won't get any movement back toward the center. You'll see your country swing so far right that it will never recover from totalitarianism.

(30,613 posts)I didn't attack. I was listening for your clarification.
And you assume that I'm not listening to the center simply because I support bigger change?

(44,986 posts)I like the sound of Sander's grand dreams as much as anyone - but I am worried that they will tank our economy and take my retirement savings with it. It troubles me that there has been no effort to explain how all this stuff gets paid for - and it's alarming that people who do ask how the economy can flourish in such a state get disparaged by the campaign. I resent that the Sanders campaign is dividing the great center of our party (just as Trump did) in order to tactically win the nomination. The tenor of the campaign speaks for itself. Lastly I am worried that I hear a lot of other people with these same concerns. Certainly no one wants to vote for Trump but no one wants to vote against their own self interest. The Sanders campaign has not given me confidence that they want nothing more than to blow things up. They don't speak to me. And I don't feel heard by them. Just my 2 cents. Thank you Lagomorph for bearing with me. This is stressful for everyone.

(30,613 posts)Sanders' vision is to stop subsidizing the wealthy insurance companies and corporations, so mere mortals like you and I can keep more of the wealth that we have been sending upward.
I think health care is a good example. The insurance-company-funded talking heads on TV (even on "left-leaning" channels) talk endlessly about the tax cost of Medicare for all. They do that so we will pay no attention to the 35% HIGHER cost of the premiums/copays/coinsurance/nopays we deal with today. They want us to focus only on the tax cost, and forget that there is another, much larger cost on the other side of the balance sheet.
I think similar arguments can be made in the areas of education and other things.
The general idea is, take some of the trillions that the wealth-creators of this nation (you, me, and the rest of the middle-class and working-class) have generated, away from the billionaires who have been siphoning it off, and let it flow into the real economy again.

(44,986 posts)And Sanders has been consistent with this message for years - but he's got to show us how it will actually work and add up. I have yet to see anything that's evolved beyond 2016's campaign ambitions - we need some what's, how's and how much? I'm not trusting my savings to blind faith and party purity without some reassurance.

(30,613 posts)Because a vote for a 3rd-party is a vote for Trump.
And yeah, I think her dislike of Bernie has been exploited by Trumputin's bots, to get her to help Trump.

(30,613 posts)Are you trying to say that Bernie's wife was too conciliatory toward a supporter of another candidate (yes, a Putin-sponsored candidate)?
I would tend to agree. But emotions were flaring then, and we didn't know then what we know now about Stein, and how she helped Putin steal the election.
