Democrats view Sanders as having best shot to defeat Trump: poll

A plurality of Democrats believe that Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has the best shot at defeating President Trump in November, according to a new national poll.

The latest Morning Consult survey, which was conducted after Sanders’s dominant victory in the Nevada caucuses, found 33 percent of Democrats view Sanders as the best candidate they could put up in a head-to-head matchup against Trump.

Twenty-three percent of Democrats said former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg would do best against Trump, and 18 percent said former Vice President Joe Biden.

The Morning Consult poll also found Sanders overtaking Biden among black voters nationally for the first time. One-third of black Democratic voters said they support Sanders, compared to 29 percent for Biden.

first in South Carolina, then on Super Tuesday.

Off-topic, I've made no secret as to why I support Joe Biden. I think he's a candidate that not only has wide Democratic support, but is also a candidate who can attract 2016 Trump voters who have woken up since Inauguration Day 2017, swallowed the coffee, and have realized what a horrible mistake they made four years ago.

There's another, equally important matter. I believe Joe Biden is a candidate who can not only deliver the White House, but help candidates down-ballot flip House and Senate seats from Republican red to Team Donkee blue.

Joe Biden and Democratic majorities in the House and Senate in 2021 is victory.

Bernie in the White House in 2021 and Mitch McConnell and (God forbid) some Republican as House Speaker instead Nancy Pelosi, not so much.

Bernie may already have cost our party Florida's electoral college votes and put any Democratic gains in Florida in peril. You'll excuse me if my Bernie burn is currently well below ice-house temperature.

Joe Biden

... is the one that asks "Who would you vote for in a Sanders/Trump race a Biden/Trump race," etc. What do I care what other Democrats think about who is strongest. Give me a poll that purports to tell me who IS the strongest.

Bernie has been polling better than Trump for months. Bernie beats Trump in most swing states. Bernie is winning most demographics, especially the youth and latino vote, and now he's apparently winning the black vote. He also beats Trump by 18 points with independents.

How is that not a strong candidate?

95% of them support Trump and will never vote for a Democrat. They're not worth wasting time on. After the damage they did to their party, we shouldn't give a crap who they think should be the Dem nominee. Bernie is polling 18 points better than Trump with independents.
