I Don't Like Bernie Sanders, and You Can Die Mad About it

I think that Senator Bernie Sanders is a horrible candidate, and I have every right to hold that opinion and speak that opinion. But at times, it doesn’t appear that way... (because) Lordy, don’t you dare post that you don’t like Senator Benard Sanders, because his fans will clutch their pearls and try to come for you. And we all know a few.

I am not sure why the most ardent of his supporters have little to zero respect for boundaries. Perhaps it’s because their candidate doesn’t either. If you watch Senator Sanders, he is always in someone’s space, especially women, waving his hand or wagging his fingers.

Because of this, it’s difficult to have constructive discussions about Sen. Sanders. Many People have Sanders on the bottom of their primary lists and prefer to keep quiet about it rather than deal with the antics of his fans. Which includes but is not limited to spamming a social media post, sharing screenshots of conversations outside of personal social media spaces to invite harassment, and doxing. Often they won’t or can’t refute a statement so they will use laugh reacts only or respond with memes.

There are plenty of Sanders stans that have scorn for Democrats, which of course, is their prerogative. But, they want those very same Democrats to embrace them and Senator Sanders, who also shares the same contempt for the party. During a recent rally in Seattle, Washington, Sanders called out Trump and the GOP to cheers, but the cheers were louder when he called out the “Democratic Establishment.”

Sanders has an even bigger margin in Wisconsin, where he leads with 30%, followed by an effective four-way tie for second place: Biden and Bloomberg are at 13%, Buttigieg and Warren at 12%.

Sanders also leads in Pennsylvania, although by a smaller margin. He has 25% support in the poll, followed by Biden (who was born in the state) at 20%, Bloomberg at 19% and Buttigieg at 12%.<<

Aside from the obvious, that the Dems didn't hold enough branches of government to put through an ACA with more teeth in it, Biden was not at the top (reminds me of people - not saying they are here, people I know in other arenas) who call the Obama State Department the "Clinton State Department", never mind that Kerry was SoS for four of those 8 years, it's always the "Clinton State Department" anyway).

16. Florida Dems in uproar after Sanders' Cuba comments
Mon Feb 24, 2020, 08:51 PM
Feb 2020

And he just lost Florida!

“Donald Trump wins Florida if Bernie is our nominee,” said state Rep. Javier Fernandez, a Democratic candidate in a majority-Hispanic state Senate district.
“If Bernie Sanders is atop the ticket, it’s going to make it tougher for all of us to win in Florida,” said Fernandez, who has endorsed Sanders’s rival, Joe Biden. “No one really sees Sanders winning Florida and I don’t think his campaign does either.”
https://www.politico.com/news/2020/02/24/florida-dems-uproar-sanders-cuba-comments-117213

This is why Bernie is going to lose folks, I'm sorry to tell you. I hope I'm wrong.

But he just lost Florida talking about Castro on 60 minutes last night.

He shouldn't even be talking about that. FORGET CASTRO!

Does he want to win?

The down-ballot ticket may get annihilated with Bernie on the ticket.

ALL Trump has to do to win is take Pennsylvania and FLORIDA! And he wins by a few EC votes. Check it out, look it up and see for yourself. Trump doesn't even need Ohio, Wisconsin, and Michigan to win!!!!

You folks are going to be very very sorry with Bernie, I am sorry to say.

Mon Feb 24, 2020, 09:54 PM
Feb 2020

I think it is a thing among the Professional Managerial Class and people in those rich neighborhoods where I was allowed in to fix slate and copper roofs. I don't deny such people exist in real life, just not among the general population of regular working class people similar to those I run into every day, or the neighbors I talk to sometimes.

Among my casual peers and the neighbors I have come to know, he is viewed favorably as a rare politician that, agree with him or not, he is at least honest and earnest about what he talks up. This may simply be an "isolated bubble" view of what is seen in my lower working class poor neighborhood but is no less valid than what is viewed from within a 3 Million/year coffee clatch pundit bubble. I would even suggest there are a great many more people with a world view and worries more in common with the denizens of my modest neighborhood that those that live in the world of a millionaire talking head.

Even canvassing in the blue collar middle class suburban neighborhoods (closer to the city than the 7 and 8 figure gated places by the lake) where I encounter some conservative ideology, people I've pitched to don't dislike Bernie, I've never had to start by defending anything. No one I've talked to so far find him unlikable, in fact more than a few times I have heard the phrase "at least he's not full of shit" right before going over one of his popular policies.

Truth is, everything I encounter offline leads me to believe he is quite popular, no matter how much the online concern trolls tell me, like Hillary, "Nobody likes him".

Tue Feb 25, 2020, 02:12 AM
Feb 2020

I noticed the dynamic of big land counties with fewer people choosing Bootigieg or Steyer bucking the trend in Nevada. There may be something to look at regarding the country dynamic, specifically in whiter, older areas. I have lived in the city (medium sized) my whole life and did about half my work in the suburbs, never did get to know very many rural folks and have no idea what they think. I know they appear to like right wing radio or church radio judging by what's on the air driving through the country between my city to another.

I think I might try to phone bank in a way to target such people, if they are working class, a working people's type agenda should appeal to them if one can get past the corporate favoring media programming most people are subjected to. I think if another decent regular working class person has an honest conversation one on one with them, they'd find they have more in common with the coalition than they might think.

Now we have Sanders who hires Stein voters for his campaign and rails against Democrats and the party so I say fuck you to those who didn't support Hillary and all the others who helped the Democrats lose since 2000...with friends like that who needs enemies. If he can't/won't work with "Establishment" Democrats, and the GOP majorities in the House and Senate sure as heck won't work with him, how will he help people with their needs?

I mean, he CAN wag his finger and make angry speeches, I guess, but I don't know who that actually helps in the absence of any actual enacted policies?

I will try to be less confrontational in future posts - particularly with regards to you, HP - by the way welcome to DU.
Just like texting, a lot of inflection and nuance is missing in this form of communication leading to misunderstandings.
If we approach each other with courtesy and respect, it would go a long way toward common ground.

I am sad, though, that you think Bernie’s supporters are jerks, while I feel like every time I mention him in a positive light on DU I get my head handed to me, usually by a whole gang of folks.

Bad behavior is rampant here, and no one has a monopoly on it.

I don’t want to be your enemy. I didn’t notice who you support, but if they win the nomination, I will be all in for them. I promise.

We are all Democrats—yes, even us Bernie supporters—and I would so love it if we could get along, even as we support different candidates.

I’ve offered this same message a lot in the past couple of weeks and it’s amazing how often it is met with disdain or open hostility. Still, I am being as genuine and sincere as I can be.

Be angry at individuals who wrong you, but please don’t tar us all with the same brush. There is one particular candidate that I won’t name whose supporters are especially ardent in attacking at the first mention of anything positive about Sanders. I know all supporters of that candidate are not bad people, though there are clearly some who think it’s okay to be awful, just because we disagree on who would be the best nominee.

I suspect someone will answer this with an admonishment along the lines of “get your own house in order” or “don’t tell me what to do!” That’s fine. That’s the response I usually get.

But I can only speak for myself. I don’t control anyone but me.

Let’s not let the jerks—and all candidates have jerks who support them here—convince us to rip one another to shreds.

Okay. I’m done.

”I am not sure why the most ardent of his supporters have little to zero respect for boundaries.”

Not sure why?! We are sick of it. We are sick of playing catch up. We are sick of being used. We are sick of being used as pawns. We resent that we are behind every Western European country in EVERY social safety aspect. We are tired of the greed.

It’s time to break those boundaries. It’s time to stand up. It’s time for a real progressive. It’s time to yell “fuck you” from the mountain tops to the greedy establishment.

That’s why. Understand now?!

just read all the venom in these comments. Holy MF crap.............

My experience is that when I try to have a discussion about Bernie with a true believer Bernie lover,
it is no different than trying to have a discussion with a TrumpHumper..................

I gave up on Trump's crowd years ago, and I have recently given up with Bernie's crowd.

Sorry, just an honest appraisal.

We can do without all the vile back and forth crap between Dem candidates and all their followers.
We should have decided this a month ago, and all get behind and vote for whom ever wins the Primary.

With all this nastiness we are only doing the Republican's job and Putin's job for them.....

I seriously believe, with all that is going on, that who ever we have as a candidate, it will not make any difference in the outcome of the election. The election will be rigged, and if perchance some Dem wins, The Republicans/Trump/Senate Republicans/Republican Supreme Court/Republican BARR-DOJ will immediately declare the election invalid.

I really, really, really, really don't want to see what happens across this nation on Nov 4th...............

He says stuff that I'm scared to say in public. I could go to work and recite verbatim what he says and get called into HR. That's why I like him. I think that attitude might sink in among others over time. I don't know if this aspect of Bernie's approach is unrecognized by his detractors, or whether they truly feel it's tired. In my mind it's refreshing. Summarily, I feel like this world is just not for me, and his dialog sort of encapsulates how I feel about it. And I know I'm not the only one.
