Nevermind that Obama was talking about reforms put in place AFTER Fidel Castro had stepped down.

(8,090 posts)Obama offers praise where it's due and also well-deserved criticism.
Seriously, get a grip.

Raul Castro had assumed the duties of the Cuban Presidency in February of 2008, nearly a full year before Obama was ever sworn in.
Furthermore, once Raul took over control of Cuba, he started to implement political and economic reforms that limited his own power and moved Cuba economy into a more, though certainly not all, market based system. Still, it was several years later when Obama began to normalize relations with them.
Obama had sought to normalize relations with Cuba from the start, but not without them meeting certain conditions, and Raul did that because he wanted to normalize those relations as well. Those are the reforms and improvements that Obama was talking about.

(8,090 posts)The words came out of his mouth, George -- praise along with a dose of reality about the economy and the country being stuck in the '50s.

(11,097 posts)The pro-Castro statements mean Florida is off the map is Sen. Sanders is the nominee.

(11,097 posts)Trump got 49.0% of the popular vote while Clinton got 47.8%. Trump won Florida by a plurality as a result of the various third-party candidates. Florida is always close - at least it has been in the recent past.
The most recent polls showed the Florida race too close to call for any Democrat against Trump.

Of course, these were before the news of Sanders pro-Castro statements - and every elected Democrat in Florida running away from Sanders.

(11,097 posts)The short answer as of the last poll was any of them. Of course, that poll was before Sanders doubled-down on his praise for Castro.

(6,544 posts)is the constant screaming drum beat we will get from the GOP about Sanders being a Commie. All will get hit by the bullshit, but Sanders has a lot of low hanging fruit out there. Truth is not going to be relevant. Be prepared, because this stuff will be minor league stuff by September
