Literacy means people can read. That's very powerful. It allows people to understand more about what is going on in their country and gives them the ability to educate themselves.
It does not excuse or, as is being suggested, support the awful practices and abuses of Fidel Castro.
Bernie is right, teaching people to read is a good thing.
