Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumIf you don't want Sanders to be the nominee, then encourage your candidate to drop out of the race.
Sanders is leading the race because the moderates are splitting the race amongst several candidates. If you want to prevent Sanders from being the nominee, then there needs to be fewer moderates in the race. There is ZERO reason for Buttigieg, Klobuchar and Steyer to be in the race. Their prospects are non-existent. If Biden doesn't win SC on Saturday, he's toast as well. The leaves Bloomberg as the only moderate left. So if Biden can't get job done, it's up to Bloomberg.
Regardless four of those five moderates need to drop out of the race to consolidate the vote if you want to prevent Bernie from winning the nomination. If Bernie being the nominee truly frightens you, then do the right thing and call on your candidate to drop out.

(11,605 posts)He won the Iowa caucuses and came very close in New Hampshire. I'd argue he's earned his spot in the race more than anyone else besides Bernie so far. And I would much rather have him as the nominee than Bloomberg, who BTW has only won I think 13 votes and 0 delegates so far.

(11,605 posts)Telling him to drop out based on pundits' analysis is ridiculous and undemocratic.
I'm honestly fed up with the media pushing so hard to winnow the field in general, and placing so much outsized importance on the first few states. I get that it's expensive to have embedded reporters covering so many campaigns, so they want the field to narrow, but it's really frustrating and offensive to some of us in later states that the media always makes sure we have two options if that.

Learning to avoid them may not be instinctual, but it is worthwhile.

(2,785 posts)If Biden does not win South Carolina then this race is over and even he does win and gets momentum back Bloomberg will probably stay in the race taking away votes from Biden ensuring Bernie the nomination.

(11,982 posts)But people don't necessarily vote in "lanes," lots of things influence their decision. And if you look at how the first and final alignments in the Nevada caucus lined up, you'll see that many votes that went to non-viable moderates in the first alignment moved to Sanders in the final alignment, rather than moving to another viable moderate.

(47,465 posts)so why vote for her when the Sanderistas can get the real thing?
She has the same freebies programs with no way of showing how to pay for them.
Is she now for Medicare for all or not? Hard to keep up.
And why go after Bloomberg and not after Sanders?
And some of us did not appreciate her shouting and taking control of the last two debates. Did not seem to have helped her in Nevada.

(35,432 posts)That's the problem. The former VP of the United States is battling an unknown mayor from a small town in a small state and a little known senator from MN.
His inability to clear the moderate lane is the real story of this campaign.
