2 Florida Democrats sue to keep Sanders off primary ballot

TALLAHASSEE — Two Florida Democrats are suing to block Bernie Sanders from running as a Democrat in the state’s March 17 presidential primary.

In the lawsuit filed Monday in circuit court in Leon County, the plaintiffs ask that Sanders be disqualified from the Democratic primary because he’s a declared independent.

The Florida Democratic Party labeled the complaint “ridiculous,” and the Sanders campaign called it “spurious.”

The complaint also seeks to prevent state election officials from counting any votes Sanders has already received. More than 244,000 Democrats have already voted by mail in Florida.

4. Sanders' running as an Indie for the D POTUS nomination begs the question:

Should a declared R/Green/Libertarian/Communist etc. be allowed to run for the D POTUS nomination? Shouldn’t you need to at least declare as a D and only as a D to be allowed to run for the D nomination for POTUS?

6. The biggest issue with a requirement like that is where the line is drawn.

How long do you need to be a member of the party to run on their ticket? A day? Year? Five years? A decade? Lifelong?

Sure you say 'well, just declare!', but whats to stop someone from the Republican party from swapping affiliation to split the vote on the Democrats side?

7. That's up to the DNC to decide. I personally feel a candidate should

be a registered Democrat for x amount of years in order to qualify for the primaries. That's a reasonable prerequisite IMO, but the Democrats don't feel it's necessary, so be it.

It's pretty laughable that the Bros were screaming that "Bernie Wuz Robbed" in 2016. What ingrates.

10. I agree. POTUS nominee should be a self-declared D for the five years leading up

Is that too much to ask?

I truly admire their principles and integrity. State and national Democratic parties should be more like them. This is an honorable thing they're doing (even though it's not likely to succeed). They speak for me.
