Why did DNC ignore McGovern national numbers in 1972? McGovern numbers sucked like Sanders

... Swing State numbers against Trump not being outside Margin Of Error.

Why didn't DNC seniors step in and say McGovern's GE numbers were horrible and stop the slaughter before it began?

Could the same be happening with Sanders?

Thx in advance

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/meet-the-press/nbc-news-wsj-poll-sanders-opens-double-digit-national-lead-n1138191

But many of these margins get smaller when the race is narrowed to voters from 11 battleground states — Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

Bloomberg's lead decreases to 2 points, (48 percent to 46 percent); Sanders (49 percent to 48 percent) and Klobuchar (48 percent to 47 percent) to 1 point; and Buttigieg is tied with Trump (47 percent to 47 percent).

Only Biden maintains his same lead, 52 percent to 44 percent.
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

as far as superdelegates, and the anti-war mood in the country just swamped anything and everything.

I think we are victims now because they have so front-loaded the primaries there is little time for process and deliberation over several months. And DC is not a state. A technicality, but also beside the point: Mondale got fewer electoral votes than McGovern. The way the electoral college works, all the votes from all the electors are totaled for each candidate, the winner is the candidate with the majority of votes. It isn't the number of states that matter, it is the number of electors from each state.

Again, it would be nice if you provided people links to support your claims.

But sure, name the "big 4" and we can look at the results and provide people with links.

just because some states have too few "progressives?" That awful establishment might win in the end. I hope we don't have to see the Democratic bloodbath if we have a nominee who doesn't like the party he's trying to represent.

.... Republican president in the last 20 years national numbers don't mean anything any longer the hyper focus is on the swing stage and getting them to move outside margin of error for any given candidate

right now the only one that spreads outside the margin of error is biting from most of the swing States

The US was flying high; astronauts were landing on the moon, and the economy was roaring. But the war in 'Nam was stubbornly not ending, and the Son Tay raid failed to free the POWs.Ted Kennedy was going to be the guy in '72, but that got screwed up by Chappaquiddick. McGovern was a WWII Vet (he flew B-24s) but was also staunchly opposed to 'Nam. His Veep pick, Eagleton, turned out to be a disaster. Muskie, who might have had a better chance, had been a huge dirty trick victim.

I'd point this out - McGovern seemed like a more likely President than the young Georgia Governor that runs in '76.
