Democratic Primaries

Joe! Amy has been my favorite from day 1, but I just dont see it happening for her.
I have reservations about Biden, but I think he would be a much better President than Sanders. Thus my switch.
The crazy thing is that I think Bernie has a decent shot to win. I just dont think he should be President.
Im with Joe.

(11,605 posts)There are advantages to any of the candidates as there are negatives.
What's important is voting Blue No Matter Who.

(2,706 posts)SC looks good now. But Super Tuesday is 3 days later, Bloomberg is still spending millions, and California polls dont look so great for him.

(2,657 posts)This is good news for Joe Biden!
Many of us Joe Biden fans also really like Senator Amy Klobuchar. For many of us, it was a tough choice. My mom, for example, is still trying to decide between Joe and Amy. She has until the middle of March to decide.
Amy and Joe both believe that the Moderate path is the path to getting rid of Donald Trump, and both of them have had a lot of success crafting bills that both Democrats and Republicans can get behind. Amy is highly intelligent, good at debating, and very personable. I just cannot help liking her.
Fortunately, Amy is young enough that I am sure this will not be her last chance at the Presidency.

(81,105 posts)won a lot of voters over.
He did step up, in energy, forcefulness, and willingness to butt in.
Dont know what took him so long, but it was good to see him in fighting for. He looked like a tired anemic well I dont know I just never was a must see for me OK yeah I think it was a guy so too I just I was just never that interested in it OK thats nice you know and he was a sympathetic character but its just you know I am in for me it was not a must see TV every week Star Trek is my CTV I started enjoying sex in the city while you were out of town for days and if that were still on I might find batteries must see TV also-ran in earlier outings. This time, last night, he looked like a front runner.
Still makes me wonder what the hell took him so long.

(8,962 posts)For some perspective, consider Obama's 2008 election mandate, to include both houses of Congress and a 60-seat Dem majority in the U.S.Senate. Even so, he was barely able to squeak through a very modest ACA package with no public option, increased infrastructure funding, and the auto industry bailout bills (the latter paid back). All of this had universal GOP opposition despite a pressing need to prevent the U.S. economy from going over a cliff. At this point, the GOP is even more partisan, and we will be lucky to get a slim Senate majority. Aspiring to provide Medicare for all, free college, and massive financial shifts to cover cost of these and other goals are commendable in principle but pipe dreams from a practical standpoint. Building on what we have in place is the best bet at this point, and not losing what we have gained is arguably even more important. If Sanders is somehow elected, his lofty proposals will crash and burn right out of the gate, rendering him as a "failed" president and tarnishing the Democratic party from that point forward. Amy, Liz, and Pete are great candidates, but I don't see any of them gathering enough momentum to secure the nomination. Bloomberg has already peaked, proving that massive TV ads alone aren't likely to close the deal. That leaves Joe. Hopefully the other candidates will recognize the writing on the wall, and will agree to coalesce around him sooner rather than later.

(47,260 posts)as my number two. Lately it has been Klobuchar because I thought she'd do better in a general election against Trump. Meanwhile, of course, Joe is my #1!

(43,049 posts)I have Amy as my choice simply because I think she is the best candidate, and will make the best President. If she doesn't make it, it's no great loss to me (although it may be to the nation).
If she is still on the ballot in April, I'll vote for her in our primary. I don't see how "strategic" voting has much of a positive effect on the results.
New York, by the way, while not much better than the rest, does have one nice thing-- no open primaries! There is a deadline for registering, and you must register with a party if you want to vote in its primary. I would like to get the stats on how many changed party registration, though.

(6,150 posts)I've been for Elizabeth Warren since early on, and still think she is the best candidate.
But, I will strongly support whichever candidate gets the nod.
I too am from New York State, and like the fact that it is a closed primary.
Too much chance for mischief in an open primary.
Independents have chosen not to be part of a political party, so it's their decision not to be part of the primary process.
I don't see any reason to change that.
Let the independents join a party to be eligible to vote in their primary.
But I also would like to know what percentage of voters joined just to vote in the primary and then reverted to being an independent afterward.
