Democratic Primaries

'The State' newspaper in Columbia, South Carolina, has endorsed Pete Buttigieg for the Democratic Party presidential nomination ahead of Saturdays primary contest there, calling him the best candidate to unite Americans. The papers backing could be a timely boon for Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, who has struggled according to opinion polls in South Carolina, particular in winning over its large African American democratic voter base.
The Democratic Party needs an energetic, disciplined candidate with a powerful yet pragmatic vision to take on President Donald Trump in the Nov. 3 general election, The State, owned by the McClatchy Company, said in an editorial late on Monday.
The Democrats need a nominee who seeks to bring Americans together based on broad common ground and not divide them along narrow interests, the editorial board said on the papers website, calling Buttigieg the best candidate to do that.

(54,410 posts)any candidate Obama and before (and far more progressive than Hillary's) then you have, IMHO, lost all perspective and are buying into some really dodgy framing.
Please do point to a non progressive part of his entire set of programmes.
Pro-tip, trying to say that the public option (as opposed to a full blown MFA attempt immediately or within a short time frame), which is itself going to be EXTRAORDINARILY hard to get passed, even if we take back the Senate, is not a progressive stance is an instant fail, and not borne out of good faith.

(54,410 posts)they went back and self deleted hundreds of posts all to no avail (other than to cover their tracks in terms of anyone comparing manner of type, style, phraseology, etc when they roll in the next sockpuppet and start to have a go)
they posted over 300 posts in a little over one day
they missed this one though!!!!!

(2,915 posts)the newspaper endorsements.
Clyburn's endorsement was the big one, but maybe this helps Pete get more votes from the Klobuchar/Steyer/Bloomberg crowd and helps push them out of relevancy.

(601 posts)I'm just thinking of all those older dudes sitting at the barber's reading the paper. (I know this is a Hollywood image, but I like to think that it may still actually happen.)
Plus, let's not forget that there are several military bases in SC. He has some potential for at least some delegates, even if it may be hard for him to get traction and peel away votes from other better known candidates with longer ties to the state, or bags of money.
