Strive - Bernie Sanders

Feb 26, 2020

When candidates say we can’t guarantee health care for all, make college affordable for all, combat climate change, or create a world at peace, remember that America is best when we strive to do big things, even when it’s hard.

I miss the America that had this drive and confidence. I miss the challenges and thrills of the race to the moon. I miss the America that really believed we could achieve great things together. JFK believed in this America and so does Bernie Sanders.

John F. Kennedy never smeared and denigrated the Democratic party... he was an honorable man with integrity. A true and loyal Democrat.

Vermont senator and Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders once said that he was "physically nauseated" by a speech made by President John F. Kennedy when Sanders was a young man, because Kennedy's "hatred for the Cuban Revolution [...] was so strong."

"Kennedy was young and appealing and ostensibly liberal," Sanders reminisced in a 1987 interview with The Gadfly, a student newspaper at the University of Vermont. "But I think at that point, seeing through Kennedy, and what liberalism was, was probably a significant step for me to understand that conventional politics or liberalism was not what was relevant."

And Harkins to an era of rising aspirations, prior to the shift to deregulation and “shareholder value.”

I also believe that certain readers of this message board might not like it, given that Sanders also was critical of Kennedy. Silliness- one can be critical of someone and also see their strengths. FDR interned Japanese Americans and also led very important reforms.
