Why Elizabeth Warren's progressive pragmatism can take on Donald Trump

Guest Opinion From The Tennessean (!)
Published 4:48 p.m. CT Feb. 26, 2020

In each of her plans, U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren offers both the bold vision we need and the practical road map to achieving it.

In 2007, many people told me that Barack Obama wasn’t electable. But his bold vision inspired people like me to come off the sidelines and get in the fight. Despite what the pundits said, we won that election through person-to-person grassroots organizing.

The cynics and naysayers don't get to decide who is "electable" or not. It’s those of us who come off the sidelines to vote, volunteer and organize who choose our leaders by fighting for what we believe in. Democrats win when we remind voters what government looks like when it works for the people, and Elizabeth Warren's bold, progressive, yet pragmatic vision will do just that.

Government leadership can inspire big dreams

When we have democratic institutions governed by leaders with a vision, who can inspire Americans of every background to organize their communities, Democrats — and the American people — win. It’s how we stopped giant corporations from polluting the water we drink and the air we breathe. It’s how we turned around cities like Chattanooga, once labeled the “dirtiest city in America,” and established the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, creating local jobs and conserving some of God’s creation to be enjoyed by all.

Government is how we put man on the moon, built an interstate highway system and created the internet. It's how we gave generations of seniors the means to retire with dignity through Social Security. Pitching in together while dreaming big and fighting hard is how we built this country.

This election isn’t and can’t be just about Donald Trump. Republicans want to convince voters that government is bad while they fight to repeal protections for people with preexisting conditions and so much more. We must answer with a vision beyond getting Trump out of office, a vision for how to create opportunity for every American. In each of her plans, Warren offers both the bold vision we need and the practical roadmap to achieving it.

And I think she's extremely intelligent in many ways. Unfortunately I do not feel she'd fare all that much better than Bernie in a GE.
All the same if she's the nominee I could proudly support her.

corrupt figure to occupy the WH. Warren will twist him into a pretzel every day with no let up.

Warren’s entire working life has prepared her for this time and to face and replace the corrupt Trump.

Too many people go for a new face or an outsized personality over plain hard work, experience, and intelligence. And I don't get it, I really don't. We're supposed to have this world of information at our fingertips, yet people seem more gullible than ever to a new idea or a shiny thing.

Note: I am not particularly comparing all the other candidates to "shiny things", I'm just sometimes wearied by how so many people alight on one thing, then fly off and alight on another.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

and she is a realist. Those are both pluses to me and I believe to a large slice of the electorate.
