Senior congressional Democratic leadership has been approached by a well-known mega-donor who encouraged them to endorse a Democratic presidential candidate who isn't Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), CNBC reports.
Bernard Schwartz, the CEO of BLS Investments, has recently reached out to both Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), according to CNBC.
We should know who is the best person to beat Donald Trump, and with all due respect, Bernie Sanders cannot beat Trump, Schwartz told the network.
They have good political reasons not to endorse until the primary is over, but I think we are losing too much if we give up on this position, Schwartz added.
According to CNBC, Schwartz didn't direct Pelosi and Schumer toward a specific alternative candidate, but he is a major backer of former Vice President Joe Biden's campaign.

Schwartz is a lifelong Democrat. According to NBC News, he was the largest single contributor to the Democratic Party from 1992 to 1996. In 1996, he celebrated his 71st birthday with Bill and Hillary Clinton at the White House.[5] In 1998 Schwartz became embroiled in a campaign donations scandal and an alleged transfer of missile technology to China that occurred in 1996. He was exonerated of any wrongdoing in the campaign finance matter after a Justice Department investigation.[6][7][8] Loral settled the missile transfer matter with the Justice Department in 2002, paying a $14 million fine and admitting no wrongdoing.[9]
In 2016, Schwartz donated US$1 million to Priorities USA Action, a Super PAC supporting Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.[10] Schwartz is also in the $5 million - $10 million bracket of donors to the Clinton Foundation.[11]

But it's good to know that folks with money to burn (no pun intended) are trying to waste it on this.

(29,235 posts)FWIW, Sanders beats Biden 4 out of 5 and ties in a 6th poll. The latest GA poll Bidens out front but the one prior he was ahead of Sanders only by a point.
