Mediate: Berserk Bernie Sanders Fans Trap Woman Congressional Candidate in Her Car: 'BLOCK HER IN!'

A group of Bernie Sanders supporters posted a video of themselves screaming at Illinois Democratic congressional candidate Betsy Dirksen Londrigan and trapping her in her car, yelling “Medicare for All” slogans and demanding that she debate democratic socialist candidate Stephanie Smith.

On Tuesday, local CBS Capital Bureau Chief Mark Maxwell posted a video of a group of Democratic Socialists surrounding Londrigan’s car screaming “Block her in!”, demanding Londrigan debate Smith, and being told to stop shoving.

But as Maxwell noted in his report, Londrigan appeared at a forum with Smith two weeks ago, and “pledged to support [Smith] if she won.”

The video was from a Facebook live stream that was posted Monday night by a group named “Where is Betsy?”, which describes itself by saying “This page was created for the soul purpose of spotting Betsy Lodrigan Dirkson in her travels through out the IL-13 district.”

It’s unclear whether “Soul Purpose” is intended as a reference to a favorite Michael Bolton bootleg.

Smith responded to the dustup by posting a video of her own — thanking the mob and praising the event as “non-violent.”

What are your thoughts ? Do you think Bernie should say something? If so, what? You know he's going to be asked.

to track down specific individuals who participated in rhis demonstration and learn something about their backgrounds.

Are they genuine, albeit fanatical, Sanders supporters? Or are they opposition operatives intent on intensifying divisions among Dem voters?

Either one could be true. So instead of reacting emotionally to these incidents, maybe it's better to stick to discussions of whether Sanders or other candidates are best suited to represent our party against Trump.

39. Yes, his statements about this
Thu Feb 27, 2020, 01:50 PM
Feb 2020

have been weak and rare, like Trump denouncing neo Nazis.

The more I see and hear of Sanders, the more I see his deception in painting himself as a resurrection of FDR. Roosevelt was a capitalist who preserved both democracy and capitalism through regulations and social programs. He had no commitment to socialism itself, only to progressive democracy.

Sanders has a commitment to socialism. In the term "democratic socialist," the word socialist is the noun, the statement of who and what he is. The word "democratic" is only an add-on, a modifier, to claim (and soften the effect of) what kind of socialist he is. But it is an oxymoron. Socialism requires giving up some democratic values of dissent, free speech, and individuality to implement it. It always devolves into some type of dictatorship.

Incidentally, I refer to him by his last name, the same as I do with all other candidates. The folksiness of "Bernie" does not appeal to me.

My dilemma: If he becomes the nominee, how can I back a candidate whose political philosophy is to end the democratic system from the left in order to oppose a fascist who is destroying it from the right?

I am left of center. But I am not far left enough for socialism.

We criticize Republicans for accepting Trump in order to maintain power. But we are doing the same thing if we accept Sanders as the nominee for our party. Both actions intensify the national divisions between left and right by putting a socialist up against a fascist.

In either case, democracy loses.
