There is little evidence from past elections that VP nominees directly help that much even in their own states, much less in other states.

What is true is that VP nominees can hurt (e.g., Palin in 2008, Quayle in 1988) and that VP nominees can help indirectly by reinforcing the presidential nominee's message or brand (e.g., Clinton/Gore in 1992) or by shoring up a perceived weakness (e.g., Obama/Biden in 2008 vis-a-vis experience).

Abrams may have been cheated out of a *narrow* victory in the 2018 Georgia governor's race, but there is no reason to think she is some electoral powerhouse who can turn Georgia blue -- even if VP nominees did matter that much themselves, which they do not. More importantly, she doesn't address Biden's weakness: his age. Joe Biden will be 78 years old on January 20, 2020. He needs a running mate who is seen as experienced enough to take over on day 1 if necessary. Warren meets that threshold, and so do Harris and Klobuchar. But Abrams, who spent six years as minority leader of the Georgia house, simply does not.

as "radical in defense of tradition." I only wish today's young people could realize how wide open the world was to me when I was their age in the 1960s-70s, before conservatives took over in the 1980s. I was a formerly homeless kid who dropped out of high school with no significant skills and got a full-time job that supported me modestly and allowed me to pay for community college. Then I got a better-paying job, then a better-paying one. All we have to do is START by restoring that prosperity and social mobility, and then building on it.

No leaping off a revolutionary cliff, copying the destruction of dozens of other nations needed.

Thinking of it, I LOVE Biden's determination to restore the stability and principles that brought us to my era with Warren's iconoclastic visions of using the need for repairs to leap us forward. He didn't choose her then to do nothing! A NEW New Deal, building on what our grandparents bequeathed us.

He finally concluded he was not going to be able to buy and afford worthwhile property. He concluded that it just was not as easy today buying a home as in the past.

I told him, at minimum wage no one was buying a home in the past either.

He did not believe me and we started researching minimum wage in the 70's, even with home costs.

The kids really are fed a lot of stuff that is not reality based.

In the 70's we would never consider these college loans. We would live at home and go to the local college if we could not afford a school or didn't get scholarships. There are differences with economy today, but not that much.

the RW are telling them that our national wealth has MORE than quadrupled over the past 30 years that conservatism has dominated, even while they're not paid a living wage for full-time work. UNLIKE their parents'.

Sanders lies to them by telling them the problem is capitalism, NOT that voters have been electing unprincipled predators who've removed the controls on capitalism.

The Repub leaders tell them it's because they're undeserving. Russia targets them all with both messages depending on what their individual profiles indicate will work better.

The only solution is a return to the liberal domination of government that made us prosperous, and happy and great.

Btw, a progressive thinker recommended we RETURN to smiling and looking people in the eye in public. LOOK at others, friendly, confident, open, accepting. NOT as if we're already defeated and afraid. I've noticed for a long time here in deep-red country that I can no longer admire babies in the market and count on parents being happy and proud at the admiration instead of suspicious of the stranger. Mean people are a sign of growing authoritarianism. And so is fear.

We need to fight the effects on ourselves so we can help others. Be the Americans we want them to be.

Outstanding people being vigorous and able for decades longer than was typical not long ago are a new reality for the human race. For better and worse. Imo, there's plenty of both but overall a lot more better.

On the worse side, Biden has said he's already been there and done that as "assistant president" to Obama. He no longer wanted a job that wears young men to the bone, but age just wasn't an excuse for refusing the call of duty to save his nation.
