(147,299 posts)several people about their opinions regarding who should be the Democratic nominee. Each had something to say about one or another candidate. Most striking to me, however, was a young woman who is a 20-something student at the University of Minnesota. She said, and I quote:
"I support Bernie Sanders. Free college and healthcare - what's not to like?"
It made me sad, because she's not going to get either thing, even if Sanders is elected. And that's the bottom line.

(2,004 posts)it seems like a 78 year old s/p MI would be a big turn-off for future looking people. I know he is offering social programs that are appealing, but in the two party system we have, anyone who has been paying attention knows that they are not feasible or at all realistic.
I guess most of the younger candidates (except Buttigieg) have quit, but it seems like Booker or O'Rourke or Harris would have caught on more with this demographic. Someone please enlighten me - I'm a 40 y.o. woman and apparently out of touch!

(31,261 posts)Actually, as a 40 year person, you have faced responsibility for like 17-18 years minimum, you know that real concrete change doesn't magically happen and that even when change does happen, it only happens via compromise.

(9,987 posts)It has wreaked untold misery on under 45s. It economically crippled many of us.
Hes just not going to ever win the demographic that suffered the consequences of that bit of personal illiberalism. Im glad donors in Delaware liked him for it.
No one else.
Chickens may be approaching the roost.
