Joe Biden is the establishment candidate.. hmmmmm

Joe Biden has led on liberal principles for 30 plus years.. but now he is the establishment..

And I understand that many here cannot bring themselves to support an establishment candidate.

Bernie Sanders if he wins the nomination and then wins the general.

He will then become the establishment.

Damn what will people do then???

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

It is a way to put down a political opponent without really saying anything.

7. Yeah, it's basically become a slur.

Similar to how Ronnie Reagan turned "liberal" into a slur.

To the rest of us, it's the functional basis of the party, the part that actually accomplishes something.

was like republicans using "liberal" as a slur as well. Political spin-masters keep changing the meanings of words and then repeat them over and over again.

8. Here's a good article about it from 2016

https://www.npr.org/2016/02/11/466049701/how-establishment-became-the-buzzword-of-the-2016-election

The meaning has changed over time, but lately it's basically turned into a catch-all slur used by candidates seen as relative outsiders and their supporters to apply to the rest of the party.

9. It usually means people in power interested in retaining power and maintaining the current system

It’s why I’m not a Biden supporter. He wouldn’t be any different than what we’ve had my entire lifetime. Maybe one step forward, then Republicans get in power and drag us two steps back.

He’s a decent man and would be a decent president, but income inequality, student debt, climate disaster and a lasting healthcare crisis are what we have to show for the past forty years.

We cannot vote for a typical politician of that era and expect things to fundamentally change.

I’m about 80% certain I’m voting for Warren in the next few days in the California primary.

12. "Establishment" means "people who know what they're doing"
Fri Feb 28, 2020, 09:21 PM

and people who don't know what they're doing always want to overthrow them. Then, if they are successful, they get into power and realize they didn't know what they were doing, so they learn and change and become the establishment.

Now all of a sudden he is called a moderate or a centrist, but in reality he is a pragmatic liberal who gets things done.

5. Some don't understand that "moderate Democrat" and "moderate" aren't interchangeable.
Fri Feb 28, 2020, 09:06 PM
Feb 2020

Compared to, say, Sanders or AOC, Biden could be considered a moderate Democrat. But he's not a moderate. That distinction seems to get lost on a lot of people.

Manchin, who many call a conservative, really is a moderate. Biden and Manchin clearly don't belong in the same category.
