AFT Washington, AFL-CIO Endorses Bernie Sanders

As everyone is aware, the stakes are high in the 2020 presidential election. In light of that fact, and with our state’s primary occurring March 10th, the executive board of AFT Washington has voted to endorse Bernie Sanders. This decision was made after substantive discussion and member input at the national AFT level and input from AFT Washington leaders and activists. The Board considered a dual endorsement of Sanders and Elizabeth Warren in the interest of solidarity and lifting up both candidates who robustly represent our values and mission and who have our members’ support. Ultimately, we decided on a sole endorsement in the interest of consolidating support for Sanders.

A recent poll shows that 22% of Washington voters are undecided while 21% support Sanders. The outcome of Super Tuesday on March 3rd will likely impact the choice voters make. In light of the damage done by the current administration to public education, human and civil rights, labor rights, the environment and much more, we urge you to vote for the eventual Democratic nominee in the general election, whether or not they were your first choice. Four more years of this administration, without the accountability of a second election, will be devastating to this country; it is imperative that we vote in the general election to stop that. We urge you to get your ballots in by Tuesday, March 10th.
