Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumJust got back from casting my vote for Biden!
In addition to my vote, I also added another vote to Biden's totals: I asked my mom earlier in the week if she wanted to watch the debates with me and get out of the house and go vote today, and she did! She isn't a regular voter and hasn't probably participated in a primary in decades, if ever. I got her to vote absentee in the midterms and am trying to keep her a little more aware politically since we need all the votes we can to cure this Republican cancer on our nation.
Nothing particularly noteworthy about my voting experience. I did see a rather young couple standing off the side when I went in, and while I was signing in, I overheard the poll workers say that at least one of them registered too late to vote in the primary. There is no telling who she was going to vote for, but I did think to myself, "maybe certain campaigns should have spent more time educating voters on the (unfortunately) many hurdles required to vote rather than riling them up on social media to bully supporters of other campaigns."
Oh well. If we had Democratic control over the federal government right now, we might have passed into law H.R.1 that allowed for (among other things) automatic voter registration. You never know in what ways someone wasting their vote on Jill Stein may impact future revolutions. Even more reason to VOTE BLUE NO MATTER WHO in November!

(8,542 posts)In order to get any delegates in CA, the candidate has to get 15 per cent of the vote. Bernie will definitely get delegates. There are so many other candidates that none of them may get 15 per cent, which will give Bernie all of the CA delegates
A lot of CA people have already voted
Im trying to figure out who is most likely to get 15 percent
Im thinking that may be Biden

But I do know that even under our noses it's hardly easy to "close the deal" and actually GET one more person to vote. We only know if we try!

Republicans control this state, so, you can rest assured that they have put in as many hurdles to voting as they possibly can to prevent Democratic gains.
I just looked up the information online since I wasn't sure when the deadline was, but it looks like you had to register at least one month before the primary today to be eligible to vote in this primary.
From what I overheard, it sounded like the young woman from the couple only registered to vote in the last couple of weeks.
Looking back on things, this rule also prevented me from voting against Bush in 2004. I remember that was right around the time I was becoming more politically aware and really defining my own political outlook. I was so excited to register and cast my first ever vote against Bush...
...and then I found out that I had registered too late to take part in that presidential election.
I have since been an active voter and make sure to double check my registration a couple of times each year (since you can never be too sure with Republicans).

(90,556 posts)I was for Biden early on, but hubby so wanted to vote for Bernie in the primary. The thing that finally swung him was that Biden is not inevitable, and if he can't get at least 15% of this very divided Dem field, he won't get any delegates from California at all. (Did I get that right?)
Pragmatism won!
