Joe BidenCongratulations to our presumptive Democratic nominee, Joe Biden!

Sat Feb 29, 2020, 09:26 PM

Super Tuesday voters - will tonight's SC results influence your vote?

I vote Tuesday in California. There are three candidates I like, and honestly, I still haven't decided.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

2. Do people really base their votes on who people in other states vote for?

That is an entirely foreign concept to me.

(Well, Gabbard, perhaps.) I vote on March 3rd and it will be for who I most believe in, but I guess we all approach this in our own ways...

12. Maybe, depending on the circumstances.

There can subtle psychological desires to back a winner, and some voters might decide to change their originally-intended vote if it looks like that vote won't matter. If the results in other states strongly suggest that your favorite candidate won't be able to collect enough delegates to be nominated, would you consider switching to your second choice?

22. I vote Super Tuesday, the day the delegate count (about 34%?) really shakes out.

I guess I could see switching to another choice if I lived in a state that followed.

13. Never have before, but have to this time

I do not want Bernie Sanders to be our candidate. And so I have to vote strategically. And that means that on March 17 I will have to throw my vote to one of the 4 or so non-Bernie candidates that I not only find acceptable, but who can coalesce a majority opposition to the other leading candidate. It looks right now that it probably will be Joe Biden.

I wonít let the perfect be the enemy of the good. I want not just to beat Trump. I want to have a good president for the next 4 years.

23. It's sad that the #1 reason I'm running to the polls on Tuesday...

is to vote for the candidate I believe can best boot Trump (and his grifter family) from the White House. Protecting Social Security and Medicare are next. *That's* what I've been reduced to.

33. Sure.

I was waiting for today to see the African American vote in South Carolina.

A Democrat cannot win the general election without the enthusiastic support of AA voters. Today was the first real test - the only real test before I must vote (I live in a Super Tuesday state). I was waiting to see if any candidate got the overwhelming support of AA voters. Joe got that support and my vote.

36. Didn't Hillary receive enthusiastic AA support in SC in 2016...

only to have a drop in AA turnout nationwide compared to Obama in both 2008 and 2012? I've read articles about AA voters in Philly and Milwaukee who said they didn't bother to vote. Some regret it, others not so much. We were killed by losing PA and WI (MI, too, but I haven't read any articles about AA voters in MI). I truly hope SC primary enthusiasm carries through to the rest of the nation in November.

Then Rep. Clyburn came and endorsed Joe

My point is that events can change the dynamics very quickly

10. Nope already voted.

CA is an important state. Bernie might take a large majority depending on how the others do (Bernie is at 35%). The rest of the vote is split between the others. Both Joe and Elizabeth are near 15% statewide (both previously had been in the 20%), although districts will matter.

15. Maybe I should have put this in my initial post

but none of the three candidates I like is top of the polls statewide or nationwide. When the California primary was in June, I always asked myself "Who would I like to be President?" and voted on that basis. This year, with the stakes so dire, I find I'm second guessing myself.

20. I don't dislike any of the candidates, but of the ones I do like...

I ask myself if he or she is viable enough to get delegates in California. If so, I might vote my heart in the hopes that he or she will have some influence at the convention. If not, should I switch my vote to my second or third choice who might make that 15%?

on March 10. Unless something unforeseen happens, Buttigieg will probably be out by then. He won't get 15% in Mississippi, anyway. I think the results here will be similar to the results in SC today.
