Joe BidenCongratulations to our presumptive Democratic nominee, Joe Biden!

Sun Mar 1, 2020, 11:49 AM

We deserve to have Elizabeth Warren as our President. She would not draft policies by

sticking her finger in the wind to see how the wind blows....yet professed supporters are
abandoning their vote for her in exactly that fashion...a finger in the wind.

Either you believe she is the most capable or you donít. I simply do not understand abandoning her.

get the nomination...I was a Deaniac...I get it.

87. Did you vote for Howard Dean?

Or did you let a bunch of talking heads talk you out of it?

Maybe had folks stuck to former Governor Dean, we would not be where we are today.

Pundits are not sages. More importantly, a pundits definition of the best candidate is rarely reflected by lived reality.

We need to make up our own minds. That way is the path to success.

In 2008, the talk was very loud saying Barack Obama just could not win, the country was not ready. Many I knew were worried and did not vote for him on Super Tuesday. He lost my state.

Yet, Barack Obama went on to win and he won big because more of us stuck with our own beliefs rather than running to what we were told was the safer choice.

It looks like we're going to base our choice on the results from just 3 states, 2 of them very lily white.

I'm totally in favor of Elizabeth Warren getting elected, and I know that if people voted their hearts instead of trying to second-guess some pie-in-the-sky strategy, she would have had a lot more success in her delegate count.

I still hope she pulls a rabbit out of the hat.

120. Only if we decide to do so

Our vote belongs to us, alone

Imho

Without Elizabeth Warren on that stage, everything is worse

With Elizabeth Warren we win and we build a stable foundation under this country for the next half century.

But we can win with a potted plant
AND
Still we can build a stable foundation for the next century
It will simply be more difficult without Elizabeth Warren at the helm.

Regardless of agreement with me, your vote belongs to you. Vote your truth, not the belief of another wholly disconnected from you.

538 currently says that the most likely outcome (59%) is that no one arrives at the convention with enough delegates. In that scenario, it is not impossible that someone who didn't come in at the top could still be the nominee.

43. So the "path"

Is that someone fourth in delegates wins?

That isnít going to happen.

Warren could throw her delegates to another, and maybe get a cabinet or VP slot. But there is no way that she gets the presidency.

Itís time to be realistic.

People have mentioned Sherrod Brown for example.

I'm not by any means saying I think Warren will get the nomination, or even has a decent likelihood of it. I'm just saying it's not absolutely impossible.

I still hope Amy wins Minnesota.

Yet I am realistic and expect her to suspend her campaign after Super Tuesday.

At that point, I hope she becomes Bidenís VP.

What Iím not going to do is hope for some contested convention, tearing the party apart, on some vain hope that a candidate finishing with little delegates becomes president. Itís nonsense and unrealistic.

72. With respect

This is an exhausting statement. She has just as much of a path as the person you support (Klobuchar). The problem is that Americans have this overwhelming desire or need to be on the "perceived" winning team that they will abandon their own common sense in order to feed that need. I've never understood that need in my political life. I studied it through grad school and worked against it during my 20+ year career in the political arena. It's exhausting. People always say, "I love candidate x, but she/he can't win so I will vote for candidate y." What people do not realize is that if they didn't bail on candidate x in the first place she/he would freaking win and would have a path to the nomination. It's the most frustrating and crazy thing about American politics. You don't always have to vote for the perceived winner.

94. Even with a bump from SC, a considerable percentage of Super Tuesday votes are already baked

So who is really viable at this point? Biden who has had NO PRESENCE in CA? Or Warren who's polling at 17% and has much more organization and infrastructure in CA?

Remember in CA, many of the counties vote by mail, which means that a significant percentage won't be known for days or possibly weeks. The campaigns know this, so the rush to make it a cage match between Biden and Bernie is HORRIBLY premature. WE SPENT A WHOLE YEAR TALKING TO IOWA AND NEW HAMPSHIRE and now we want to rushóor even negateóthe votes in CA and TX? Warren has a LOT of support among the people who went for Bernie in 2016. (For all we know, Bernie is still counting them in his polling data because it makes him look more realistic.)

FTR, I and my family have already voted for Warren. We are #BlueNoMatterWho but want to support a candidate who will get things done and who will support the down-ticket races in CA and elsewhere. (Would prefer that Bernie isn't the candidate, as the candidates backed by Our Revolution in 2018 lost every race.)

She's from Marshall, went to MO Valley, raised by a state worker (caregiver in group homes). She's really into environmental law. A Marshall girl who graduated from Harvard Law is huge. She's young but very open to feedback, especially in person. She has a toddler at home and her husband is active duty Army. If elected she would be the first to ever serve in Congress with an active duty spouse.

(Also very knowledgeable about Syria.)

If you were closer I'd invite you to attend the Kirkpatrick Dinner in March in Warrensburg. Most of them will be there and it's a great opportunity to meet them one-on-one. Heck, if you can ever make it up here I'd invite you to any of our events.

46. Ironic how gendered your language is in this post.

"Too soft" "not strong" "violently negative"

Meanwhile n Joe pulls his tough guy routine, defends racist policies, hypocritically brags about the VAWA and has devotees who eat it up while he wins over Black voters who do know how to leverage political debt and angrily talks down to voters when confronted on his past. The disconnect is absurd.

No, Warren is not going to pull out the Scranton tough guy persona to attack Bernie because she has class and confidence and doesn't need to. That people think politicians need to take such positions reveals their insecurity. She doesn't play to the superficial reality TV watching public because she's the real deal.

74. "soft vs. strong" is stereotypical gendered language

It's possible too own and correct bias when it becomes apparent. Read and learn:

More recently it has been shown a ďlinguistic normativity effectĒ according to which people tend to compare groups or individuals by mentioning first the more powerful or higher status ones (e.g., ď Compared to men, women are . . .,Ē or ďCompared to fathers, mothers are . . .Ē). This biased comparison implicitly favors the first mentioned group, which becomes the norm against which the other is compared (Pratto et al., 2007). Specifically, BruckmŁller et al. (2012) found that when men are mentioned as the referent group of comparison in a typically male (leadership) context, status inequalities are perceived as more legitimate and the gender stereotypes of men as agentic and women as communal are more readily endorsed. https://oxfordre.com/communication/view/10.1093/acrefore/9780190228613.001.0001/acrefore-9780190228613-e-470

25. I agree. This is maddening.

Dean's problem was a lack of specifics. I went and heard him speak and, while he seemed likeable and the crowd was enthusiastic, all I remember is "we're going to kick him out of Washington and send him back to Crawford!"

I saw Warren the other night, she was strong on specifics, got almost zero press coverage.

And she was excoriated when she pressed Bernie on his saying a woman couldn't win and he almost physically brushed her off. So when they say she wasn't tough on Bernie, look what happened when she even said one little thing.

M4A is a non-starter at the moment. Her pragmatism in realizing that shouldn't hurt her.

They are intended to winnow the field and choose the strongest candidate. If people don't think their favorite candidate has a good chance to win the nomination they'll switch to someone else. Sometimes you just have to be pragmatic, and in the immortal words of Mick Jagger, you can't always get what you want.

I does't matter so much who is the most qualified when all of the Democratic candidates are far better qualified than the sitting President. All of the Democrats who have dropped out are far more qualified than the President, Hell, half of the prison population is more qualified than the D. J.

It is imperative that we run the candidate with the best chance of winning the White House. Whenever that shakes out we will all need to forget our favorites unless we want for more years of chaos.

This is what we are facing, and it is going to take a miracle:

20. Of course she's highly qualified. That's not the problem.

The issue for any candidate is whether they catch on with voters, and that's an intangible thing that isn't always based on qualifications - consider the fact that the most spectacularly unqualified person in the universe caught on with a whole lot of voters in 2016. I don't know why Warren isn't doing better - I like her a lot and I think she'd be a first-rate president. Sometimes candidates don't have an effective campaign organization or strategy. Sometimes their ads aren't effective. Sometimes they can't raise enough money. There are dozens of reasons why a particular candidate succeeds or not, and their qualifications (which different people weigh differently anyhow) is only one of them.

There's a theory that things happen, or don't happen, when they're supposed to. Unfortunately, IMO, her time in the progressive lane at least, may have been in 2016 when many urged her to run as the progressive candidate but she declined, probably because she didn't want to run against Hillary, another woman.

45. The quality of our top two choices is rather sad actually

For different reasons, both have ďone termĒ written all over them. Ideally, Warren would be the oldest remaining contender and doing better with voters. Her campaign, of which she is admittedly in charge, would certainly do some basic things over again if they had the chance (and if they were honest with themselves). But Iím sticking with Warren because the alternatives donít make sense to me as long as I have the chance to support her.

Before this primary started, I didnít think Democrats were in a very good place as a party, and the way things have gone Iím feeling validated. Trump has voters completely freaked out and the obsession with electability has propped up Biden. Sanders is also a creature of 2016 issues. His policies are more forward looking but his base appears to be fueled by negative feelings about Democrats as much as it is about beating Republicans, and many Democrats canít stand him. Both men are old. One lost his fastball somewhere between 2016 and 2019 and the other recently had a heart attack and wonít release his health records. Weíre playing for the next election, and not very well at that.

Still only a small handful of states. If pundits were saying Warren could win Super Tuesday, she could win Super Tuesday. The polls and predicting become a self fulfilling prophecy. I think people should vote for who is the best candidate, not who they think can win.

59. Warren would be the most effective executive, as opposed to traditional male posturing

She actually gets things done that help Americans and has reasonable plans to do even more. She seems to have been written off prematurely. How much is sexism playing into this primary?

65. Lots!

She actually reminds me a lot of Obama. She's modest and ambitious in a way that makes sense (rather than aspiring to cure cancer or start a revolution). Voters seem to be ready to give in to sexism and racism way too easily. That is white male supremacy and exactly what is driving both Bernie's and Joe's popularity. I was so excited and am beginning to dread the general election. My strategy is to focus on local and state politics.

135. This is why Warren would be the most effective

She has a proven track record of getting things done and getting her legislation passed through Congress, e. g., the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, a very big deal, the otc hearing aid bill, etc. She is effective and works across the aisle as well as anyone.

63. She is the most qualified and smartest

I will support whomever the nominee will be, but it has always been my opinion that she is the smartest and most qualified as far the person able to bring about structural change that moves minorities, the poor and middle class forward.

I have not heard anyone speak to black issues the way Sen Warren has. That's because she has actually listened to black folks on the ground and incorporated the needs of black folks into her policies. She did not just speak to "black leaders". If she is not the nominee, I hope she has a lot of say in the new administration.

81. Vote your own mind

We need the wisdom of the American people on this one. I don't pretend to have a monopoly on that by any stretch of the imagination.

Yet, I do know wisdom does not emanate from polls. It emanates from us when we pick based on who we believe would do the best job in this moment.

That is my message to everyone. Vote for who you believe is the right candidate. Don't let anyone, including me, tell you otherwise.

to run this country & being my second choice for primary I would enthusiastically support her if she gets the nomination. There are a lot of posts bashing our most progressive candidates & every website has its share of russian bots so don't take what is said online as the views of the general Democratic population.

I just don't think she's the most capable of winning the primary at this point. NH had me very worried. It's right next door to home and they know who she is, but she still couldn't gain any traction. The realpolitik is people vote based on who they "like" whatever the hell that means. Not who's policy ideas would benefit the most people or even make the most sense. She's detailed and "in the weeds." That appeals to Vulcans like me. Most folks aren't Vulcans.

105. I have never believed she is the most qualified, experienced, or job-specific knowledgeable.

That would be Joe Biden.

However, she is a fighter, brilliant, and a great anti-corruption advocate.
Her forte is domestic economic policy, but that is an area in which the president has a limited influence. And it is by no means her only responsibility.

Warren lacks foreign policy and relations experience and interest. In fact, she never spoke much to issues other than her domestic plans. She never gained traction with AA voters. She did not articulate a broader message.

I think it possible had she not made a pact with Bernie and gone against him much earlier, sheíd have been a much more appealing leader for progressives. Still, could she survive that cult of personality? I think some of her political moves were not the most wise.
