"Buttigieg unwilling to be reason Sanders is able to get "insurmountable" delegate lead"

Jim Sciutto ✔@jimsciutto

—>> Buttigieg unwilling to be reason Sanders is able to get “insurmountable” delegate lead on Super Tuesday, CNN reporting.

7:09 PM - Mar 1, 2020

That sound you hear is a Midwestern Mayor throwing himself on his sword.

More:

Geoff Bennett ✔@GeoffRBennett

Representatives of both the Buttigieg and Biden campaigns have been in discussions about consolidating support around the former vice president, sources tell @craigmelvin and @mikememoli. However, both sides are downplaying expectations of an endorsement tonight.

Joe Biden

Short of an actual revolution (and not just the concept of one) or extenuating circumstances like a world war or a political assassination, progress in politics is almost always incremental. That's why a lot of people don't buy into the "revolution" talk.

44. You are so correct.

What I find intriguing is all the support for those who don't want to think of bigger and better things. If we can be honest about a few things, one of the takeaways of the early Obama administration is he was, often, approaching the bargaining table after already having negotiated away (with himself) his original position or desired result. It did not serve us well. There are great people in this race that are asking for a lot--much of which will not get done real soon. Does that mean you can't ask for things that every other civilized country on the planet has? Is that so 'out there'? Let us not forget that the early support for the 'puss-filled orange anal boil' was based on much of what we all want. The anal boil was stealing our lines--the thing is, we knew he was full of sh*t but his magot hat-wearing base just wanted to 'blow things up'. They did now care if he broke the government--they were down with it.

61. Uninformed on 2 levels

1) coalition building is THE essential skill that a party nominee and President must have.

The fact that you disparage Mayor Pete only magnifies how bad Sanders is at it and how uniformed his supporters are when it comes to Presidential history.

2) Down thread you mistakenly appropriate FDR as a paradigm for Sanders. How ignorant of basic history can you be?

The Roosevelt family was the 5th largest land owner of Manhattan and held great wealth from the 1840s.

FDR ran on a balanced budget lol. The New Deal was filled with temporary measures (like the CCC) not long term structural changes.

The most enduring remnant of the New Deal, Social Security, is not a socialist plan but one that is self funded by workers and employers not the federal budget.

FDR gave manufacturers massive war time contracts with lucrative cost plus profits which will recapitalizing American companies. FDR is primarily responsible for the rebirth of American Capitalism. He could have tied those contracts to an equity position in those companies but he didn't, he was the ultimate capitalist.

He, unlike the leader of your cult, was a master coalition builder changing Vice Presidents to reshuffle the coalition. Between Garner and Truman ( from the right wing of the party) he pulls in Wallace, a socialist, and then gets rid of him because he doesn't like Socialists.

The irony is that Henry Wallace was the kind of intelligent gifted effective socialist that you mistaken believe that Sanders is

During his last campaign FDR knew that his health is failing and drops the well accomplished Wallace and puts the conservative Truman on because he doesn't want a leftist to follow him.

Summary of things you have clearly shown you don't understand in this thread

1) coalition building is an important skill for the party's nominee.
2) Butigege's endorsement of Biden us a self less act not a selfish one.
3) FDR was
a) not a socialist
B) manipulated the left wing of the party and handed the legacy to Truman who was Wallace's main political enemy
C) enacted reforms that rebuilt Capitalism
D) was from the pre eminent richest family to ever occupy the WH
E) clearly believed in weaving together the broadest coalition and would have despised the go it alone, " I am not a Democrat" Sanders.

I really don’t think any of Bernie’s supporters have a leg to stand on when critiquing an actual new comer and outsider as “establishment” 🙄

24. I would think Pete would be wise to not endorse anyone.

It does him no good, thinking of his future, to endorse anyone. If I were him, I would release his small number of delegates to makes free votes.

30. Disagree.

If he endorses the person who becomes the next President of the United States, it will look uniformly positive.

It's a calculated risk, but one that really has no downside. If he's right, he's on the winning team. If he's wrong, he endorsed a candidate respected by the vast majority of the party.

45. Former Mayor Pete Buttigieg is smart as hell.

He knows that both when he quits and how he quits have a big impact. So, he obviously asked himself, "If I leave, who do I want to end up winning the nomination?" My guess is that he does not want it to be Senator Bernie Sanders.

gets four more years and maybe the House is lost as well...a general where Sanders is the nominee would be terrible for us...sure he gets my vote, but he loses badly.

70. What I don't get is the hand wringing like this is something unusual and underhanded.

This is precisely how party politics work. Hell, politics in general. Coalitions form, shift, and dissolve all the time as part of the mechanisms to get things done. Wouldn't surprise me at all if Klobuchar and Warren know the writing is on the wall, but are staying in for Super Tuesday because they know they could cost Sanders Minnesota and Massachusetts. To frame this as something sordid is just ridiculous.

60. nice work, Mayor Pete!

When he first entered the race I didn't know much about him but I thought there was no way a married, gay man would be elected President. But over the past months I see now what a great candidate he was! He had some great ideas & arguments. Now I understand why he decided to run for that office, he has some great skills & I'm glad we all got a chance to know him better.

These days it's rare to see a politician who is willing to do more for the country instead of themselves or their campaign! I'm just sorry this one was a democrat & a real democrat, not one who calls himself a democrat every 4 years!

Thank you Mayor Pete for showing us what a real leader looks like!
